Tahoe spring break

hey,

my aunt and uncle are both profs at UC Davis and they called me the other day to see if i wanted to come over and hang out for spring break and bring my brother and a couple friends from school down with me. we've got a friend with a house at tahoe, i think on the western or northwestern side of the lake, and we're probably gonna be there for more than half of the trip. ive been in the winter one time when i was little but i can't really remember much about the place. we'll probly hit up northstar for a day because their park is nasty and our old ski instructor from vail runs the mountain, but aside from that what are yall's favorite smaller mountains around the lake that are pretty cheap that we could explore? i think i remember badger pass and like homewood from when i was little, but i cant remember whethere they were super shitty or not.

ordinarily id say we'd stay at northstar the whole time, but it's pretty far from the place we're staying and i kinda just want to explore and see as much of tahoe as possible, plus i dont know if we're gonna be able to connect with our old ski instructor to get cheap lift tickets. also we kinda wana make a good adventure out of it. who's got the most fun little obscure scenes in the area?

^^than why the hell did u post? If you're lookin for park, try boreal man. their park in my opinion is way better than n*'s. plus, with the location description u gave i think it might be closer too. dont go to alpine cause they shafted all of us!

yeah boreal or sugarbowl would be fun to check out on your way into tahoe from davis, but then once you're in west shore, check out homewood.  fun mountain with a lot of stashes to cruise through.  park is real mellow, but it sounds like you're looking for some adventure/exploring and less super hard shredding, so maybe check it out.

nah super hard shredding is always a goal assuming everyone arrives in tahoe uninjured from the earlier part of the season...homewood looks promising, def gonna check out those other two, thanks guys

if you want to do a little driving.... alright, a lot of driving, kirkwood is always fun. its gonna be tough to get to though. but worth it. you can charge there. but i second homewood. there are a lot of fun stashes.

You have to check out squaw at least once... just because its a freaking mecca... regardless of the gapers and celebs...

yeah Squaw is a must for some excellent all around spring skiing, especially if it's on someone elses tab. Check out Boreal's park as well....should be going off be then.

You guys forget JMA bought Homewood this year too and jacked the prices there as well. Feel free to go there, it's a sick mountain and all but if you go there don't buy a lift ticket if you know what I mean *wink, wink*

Has everyone completely forgotten about Alpine Meadows, or is everyone just so bitter that they are not sending any shred of business her way. Personally, I think that we have a moral obligation to WayBackMachine. How can we deny him the pleasures that we indulged in for so long. Alpines personality may have changed, but her physical attributes are still incredible. I can't remember a spring break when I didn't get freshies down estelle, or ride roo in the warm california sun. WayBackMachine is coming to the best place in the world at the best possible time, shouldn't he enjoy it to the fullest extent. In the end it is his decision: Waste in the litlines of Northstar? Battle the gapers of Squaw? or shred powder on epic terrain with no lift lines? I think we all know the right choice.

It is true... with the prices higher, there will be even fewer people, and even shorter liftlines... which could be interesting...

Same time, we are all pretty bitter about shralpine... and so is everyone else for that matter. this first season at that resort is not going to be fun for the management I suspect... Everyone from us newschoolers, to the snowboarders, even to the families are going to miss out on it because of its changed affordability... its unfortunate, but at the same time... I'm hoping that they have really poor turnout this season, and realize that they must swiftly change the prices back to the range where they were at before or else suffer some catostrophic attendance figures...

Sorry about the price change, but they only have to sell half of the passes, to make the same amount of money. That means shorter lift lines, more pow on the hill, less gaypers in the park, and shorter a walk from the lot. I think what they are doing is trying to better serve a smaller amount of people. I'm not sure you guys were buying passes about 7-8 years ago, but Alpine's pass used to be about 800 dollars then. The locals that have ridden Alpine for years were forced into the backcountry because we were giving the skiing away. They wanted to weed out the people that were only there for the price. All I know is the first pow day and you kids are at Northstar or boring-hill, you'll be BUMMED. Oh, and for the jerk-off (buttflap) trying to tell people there will be no park at Alpine, now the gloves come off.

.. but they also weeded out people that went to alpine not just for the cheap price. it sucks because if i had the money, it wouldnt have been a question as to where i ski this year. this kind of makes me feel like im not "local" or "core" enough to ski at alpine because i dont have 900$ to spend.. because my education rapes me.

I would never let a friend go to Northstar...and pay. hahahah. But as long as Alpines not hooking it on my end, I'm not going to do any more word of mouth advertising for them. It's a win-win, lose-lose situation. I'm sure both sides will figure out a better solution next season. In the mean time I'll miss Johnas and his crew this season, but I definately plan on making a few stops over to alpine to visit.

ohh and FYI....they jacket day ticket prices up too. so it's not just young adults they are targeting; it;s everyone.

hahahaha thanks for keeping my best interests in mind...itd be cool to check out alpine meadows, i think it's the only place people have mentioned so far that i havent actually heard of/been to at some point. hopefully it isnt raining when i get out there.
