Tahoe, Shasta, Mammoth, Mt. Baldy, Wrightwood, Big Bear Storm update thread

coskibum...im sorry but storms out in the cierras are intense as fuck, especially with this one being nearly off of the charts. co's average storms wouldnt hold a candle on this. for you to call out the other person stupid right after you made the raionalization of this storm to being a commonplace thing for co was in fact...stupid.

seriously man COSkibum I live in boulder now, so i was around for that storm last december but im at home in tahoe with mi familia and this shit is fucking crazy. sooo gnarly outside. im gonna go look for flashlights and charge my laptop and phone and shit now that i think about it.

should be clear next week too so anyone lookin for a serious booter sesh, get at us, we already have the spot, sleds, cameras, etc.. more homies the merrier, ya dig it???

Haha agree with storms compared to Colorado. Lets just throw a fact out there. Tahoe owns the world record for most snow in 24 hours, 76 inches. So yeah ill just leave it at that. And i will say this storm is not as rare as people are making it to be.
Reno all day tomorrow and sunday!
Still awaiting on how this snow will settle for backcountry. Could be out this week rippin the sleds and building and hittin cliffs, could have to wait a couple extra days.
well i have tons of footage yet to be loaded from my camera, but i am currently filming a time lapse so that might be an hour before i get those. but i took these a minute ago... Already two feet at my house, and its getting colder....

They were saying 3+ inches an hour!
Right now the temps are dropping in south lake, when the streets freeze it's gong to be insanely icy.
Palmer Monday At the jump.

SO this is interesting. For tonight here is the snowfall. Notice locally higher amounts. Now this might not be too impressive but we are talking less then 24 hour snowfall here. plus more snow tomorro and tomorro night are not listed...

Check out the Wind Gusts for Ward Mountain... Which is the top of ALpine Meadows. yes that is 165mph, that is a Category 5 Hurricane...

Snowfall rates may be 6inches per hour, which is INSANE.

I hope to see some EPIC snowfall photos tomorrow and Sunday.

can u send CT maybe a foot please or even 6 inches i would be very greatful. but anyway 6 inches an hour!! 10 feet in total!! 165 mph winds!! this storm is fucking crazy i hope u guys shred some sick pow for me

We just casually browsed Vons like 10 minutes ago and bought beer, eggs and some mozerlla sticks so, NO. But we went out today at mammoth and it was alright, definetly heavy snow. If you are going fast with big skis you dont get deep in most spots. It is dumping outside right now and when the right stuff opens that is in the trees its gonna go off. The report for tomorrow just says 2-3 inches during the day and 10 mph winds so hopefully we can get dummmmy in the clubbb.

its been snowing and sticking down in the reno valley for about 1 hour and we already got about 5 inches

So....you've never been to Colorado have you?

Yeah, California's snow is like cement compared to Colorado's.

I saw that one guy listed the storm of 2003 already so I won't go there. How about this...

1/7/05 - 1/11/05

A very moist southwest flow over western Colorado began this winter storm event. This was followed by an upper trough during the last two days of this winter storm, with no break in snowfall or strong winds between the two weather patterns. Storm total snowfall amounts generally ranged from 3 feet to 8 feet in the mountains of western Colorado. In the mountains of central and southwest Colorado, local accumulations were even higher. Park Reservoir on the Grand Mesa received 10 feet, Schofield Pass 10 feet, Silverton Ski Area 12 feet, and Columbus Basin in the southwest San Juan Mountains 14 feet. Strong winds accompanied the snowfall, with gusts generally ranging from 50 to 80 MPH. A gust to 81 MPH was clocked at the Storm Peak Lab above Steamboat Springs Ski Area on January 9th. Snow drifts in many exposed areas were at least 10 feet high. During the event, many trees and utility lines were downed by the heavy snow accumulation and winds. Numerous avalanches occurred, and are further described with the avalanche reports relating to this winter storm. Major highways and numerous secondary roads were closed for periods of time during the storm. There were at least four separate incidents with people who were lost in the mountains of western Colorado during this storm. -National Climatic Data Center

i dont wanna argue about snowfall, but sure colorado gets huge storms and a lot of snow. but the most snow in the lower 48 a year is baker, a couple utah resorts and a couple tahoe resorts.
and tahoe holds the world record for most snowfall in 24 hours at 76 inches.

anyways... JEX! URBANS TOMORRO

It abvious that most if not all the people who talk shit on sierras snow and how CO's better have never actually skied any where near Tahoe, Mammoth or the PNW when there has been powder.

yeah the sierras snow can be a little heavier but hey, they get one helll of a lot of it.

its not that much heavier

shit is off the cahin, i can't remember any thread in NS history where someone has actually set up a webcam for something, thats nuts, but warrented

these are the days i really wish i bought some damn backcountry skis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not that i can make it, but where are these booter spots...i have heard of one by river ranch but i don't know where exactly.

dude there are tons of booter spots everywhere.
i know of tons. but there will always be snow in tahoe and im personally waiting for the snow to settle and hitting reno all day tomorro. dont know who else is?

I think i just wet my pants. i just read that reno is already at 14 inches! For people not familiar with the area, that is a lot for reno and jibbing time!

2 down.... but with two police run ins. look out for reno 911. officer dangel don't like them rail jibby thangs on them snow sticks

word jex, ill give you a holla wen i get down there. as of right now i dont think i can drive threw snow thats over my bumper, and all the resorts are not opening shit today so that wouldnt be worth it.
So far over 4 feet has fallen at my house! Well i also live pretty high at 7500 feet.
Some somehow 4 more feet of snow is expected threw sunday!...
ll stick with the snowmobiles to stay consistant...

time to go to clayton middle school.....best place for urbans in reno

Hey guys, this isn't a competition about who gets the most snow. Tahoe's getting pounded, and we should all be stoked to see that it's been a pretty good year just about everywhere so far.

And 6" an hour? I've seen it do that once and it was insane.
