Not too sure if this has been discussed or if it is even possible but I think could be a neat feature. So basically utilize username tagging as facebook does so people know when they are being mentioned in conversation or video? So in a thread where people talk about an edit or something they could tag @jwenz or something followed by a message to the user to perhaps get involved with a thread.

This could be very helpful in cults...i.e. the NSTV producers cult where threads are often ignored for days. Also would avoid extra messaging for a question

I like this idea. I think it would be really cool if certain aspects of NS were more like facebook. It would be neat if member profiles were like FB profiles with the ability to tag people in pics and videos and have photo albums. And it would be sweet if you could have ongoing conversations with different people instead of your inbox just showing your latest message. And if recent photos and videos from your friends showed up on your profile.

That would be stellar.
 
I think tagging like you're describing is a lot harder to follow than the "quote replying" system that's in place now. I've always liked the idea of being notified when somebody quotes one of your posts. And if the photo/video/news/etc sections get revamped to allow quoting and other features that currently exist in the main forums, a quote notification system would be even more valuable. Like you said, there are a lot of areas of the site that get regularly ignored for days or even weeks by the average NSer, and notifications would go a long way to keep conversation going. That said, I would imagine implementing a quote notification system would be a tremendous amount of work on the back end.

Somebody posted a google search string a few years ago that allowed you to quickly see where you've been quoted, but I haven't been able to find that post in a long time.
 
i would like to see a notification center for things like comments on your photos/videos or like, if someone quotes you in a thread, you get a notification.

It would be cool if you could do gear tagging also. There would be a section in your profile where you tag certain gear items that you own/have owned including skis, outerwear, cameras, etc. When someone wants to learn about some gear they can either put these tags in a new thread or search for members with the tags. And if someone tries to create a thread with boot tags, when they click create thread, it takes them to the sticky haha.
 
But what if I posted a thread that I wanted your attention? you'd never know unless you perhaps read the thread. Like this thread for example...Id like to tag red names to see their opinions..however it wont get attention until they just so happen to look
 
could work...by why do double the work? If i could tag them in here it would save me time from messaging the same concept to multiple admins? They would get a message and it would direct them here?

Another use. In the producers cult we are asked to post questions in there about the program etc. in order to avoid sending emails that may be redundant for them. Not many people frequent that forum. It would be nice to get someones attention about a thread that a response would be appreciated from them. I am not suggesting hash tags..only name tags to increase community involvement.
 
^ A favorites pages would be awesome. I can see more respected/more active members getting bombarded by tags.

Also, how would users be notified that they've been tagged? PM? Or were you thinking of making a notification system kind of like Facebook?

Ive thought about this and i tried quoting and typing in that person's exact name into the bar but it doesn't work
