Im going to be taking classes soon, and was hoping someone on here has gone pretty far in the sport, and could tell me a little more about it, Ive done a lot of research on it already, so please dont searchbar or google me.
i did it when i was a lot younger from about 5 years old to 9. got to a red belt which isnt really that impressive but i was in the system for long enough to understand it i guess.
at the time i hated it because it was something my parents wanted me to do but looking back if i were to start again right now i think id really get a lot out of it. it would be a really focused escape from school and shit. kinda the way golf is for me but in a more demanding and athletic arena.
not sure that does much for you but i think its an awesome thing to give a shot
I do TKD over here in england and its really good im not a black belt yet but i know a fair amount. Its really good fun and builds up your basic fitness and you will have great leg muscles by the time your a black belt (if you go that long) because it is primarily based on kick though hand techniques (sorry cant spell) play a big role. I dont really know what you wanna know. I would describe my "class" as a mix between circuit training, sparring (beating the crap out of people) and obviously the pattern side of things. Its a sport where your expected to focus on your every move and is very YOU orientated but you are expected to give back. If you have any specific questions just PM me i will be happy to answer as best as i can. I hope this has helped abit.
Tough call, golf is super relaxing and fun if you don't suck hardcore, but i bet tae kwon do really helps with stress and whatnot. People also wouldn't be able to fuck with you cuz you'd be like POW right in the kisser if they did.
Sorry i was unhelpful OP
All the responses were perfect, thanks!I'm going to take the classes just to have another form of excercise besides the gym and skiing, also it seems like it would be a good escape from all the shit around me right now.
Basically I was just seeing if anyone really enjoyed it, and it seems great for me right now so thanks!
i used to do Hap Ki Do, which incorporates Tae Kwon Do, and it was great. I earned a red belt before i stopped (it was time-consuming and very difficult). I recommend learning any martial art, not only is it great for your physical health but also your mental health. Also very handy when people decide to fight you.
lol i did it..i cant remember but i did it when was pretty young..i got to the end of a green belt..it's good for self defense and all...but i didnt really like it...lol you gotta run around alot
When I was younger I tried Tae Kwon Do and Karate but I didn't really like either of them. You never really get to fight each other, plus when you do it's not fun to get punched. Then I tried Judo and I really liked it. I got a green belt before I had to quit for skiing. You get to spar with people every time you go and there's no kicking and punching, it's all about throws and submission. Really good excerise too.
ive been doing kung fu for 10 years and seeing all of the tae kwon do screams and jerky slow movements over and over at tournaments has completely turned me off from it.
if you want something useful and quicker to learn i would suggest taking Brazillain jiu jitsu
I did TKD in middle school/beginning of highschool and got a black belt after about 4 years I think. My school was kinda weird in that it was geared more towards kids I guess. So I did point sparing and forms rather than all out street fighting. I competed in tournaments for a couple years when i was like 13-14. I actually stopped when I got into the next age group which was 15-18. That shit was too intense, people were way way more talented in that age group. I thought whole Karate thing was stupid at first but there were a bunch of cool kids and I found myself down there every single night. I became an instructor and started teaching after a while too.
Ultimately I quit because the school I went to began to fall apart financially and in quality as well. I look back on it as a good times, but now when I look at weird older people who are way too into karate and suck at it I'm embarassed for them and for the sport. Why martial arts attracts such fucking weirdos I don't understand, I'm glad my school wasn't really like that. Best thing about it was that it builds your strength and especially your flexibility. I have completely lost my flexibility now (i'm 23) and i really really wish i had that back.
that's the low down on my experience. It's funny cause nobody really knows i have a black belt and i never really tell anyone. once your older and out of that whole scene it really plays no relevance at all to your life.
I did Tae Kwon Do till I was 9. started when I was 6. Got to my black belt then quit cuz i had no time and cuz i was tiny compared to everyone and we had to grapple. (like wrestling) Its super easy to get to black. at least at the place i went to
Where I was training it took at least 7 or 9 years to get to black belt, cant remember which it was. And every belt test (?) was supervised by one of the three big bosses in the Finnish Tae Kwon Do federation.
