T-Shirt Design Contest

No, you cannot. That is stealing someone's art work. Art is not just a hobby for people and by just taking their work and throwing on a tee that NS is going to sell is LAME. It is a flat-out slap in the face to say that they would be "stoked if one of his designs made it". Artists get paid for their work, they don't throw it at people hoping they will put it on a shirt. If they did that, they would never be able to pay their bills.

This is also the reason I have an issue with "design a t-shirt" contests. It is basically discrediting the hard work and skill that goes into design. The more of those contests that pop up, the less and less people expect to pay for artwork, the less and less these artists earn in terms of income. It hurts their profession.

 
I daresay that if professional artists are at risk of being put out of a job by our sweet lot, then they should reconsider their effort in their field.
 
i agree and you are taking this a little serious, i dont think he should use pollards art but this contest is still a cool idea
 
Someone just needs get pollard to sign up here and upload his own design and the problem would be solved...

that is in no way the issue at all.

First, it's called copyright law. Stealing intellectual property is punishable by law.

Second, it's called ethics, morals and even on top of that, self respect. You should never profit from someone else's work directly. Stealing and calling it your own is wrong and straight lame, and it makes you look like a tool.

If someone emailed eric and asked him, and he said yes, it would be fine.
 
I was talking about his second paragraph moreso than the first, about how "design contests" cheapen real art and make people less susceptible to purchase good design.

But OK dad, thanks for the lecture on copyright and self respect, can I go back to agreeing with you now?

I don't know why he would give his work away free, I could definetly see him making a few shirts for line and selling them through that if there was enough demand though.

oh yeah... lets just squash interactive innovation, why don't we? Thats one of the most lame protectionist thing I have ever heard.

Why should we have some desk jockey tell us what is a good design? Because thats what a text book told you?. Every artist knows the best stuff comes from small craftsmen, not from art mills churning media for the masses.

no offence but i think rasta is getting kind of played, not completely, but i dont feel like the subject of a design being rasta colors is very legit anymore, needs to be more subtle than that
