T-Hall Original Flat Spin Master?

haha, you know it's 2001 when every shot except 7 (out of like 30) are on hips. i wish hips were as ridiculously popular now as they were back then. and yeah tanner shreds in that segment, nothing more fun than boosting a hip to the very last bit of landing..

damn i wish i had all my old ski movies with me so i could watch that whole movie. one of my favorites. I cant remember if its ski movie II or III

Some would say that it was Tanner who popularized flatspins and rodeos back in the day. He pretty much invented the switch rodeo.

Original flatspin master, indeed: What you're looking at there are the first flatspin 360s seen in a ski movie. As far as I know, Tanner was the first to do them. After that segment came out, the flat 3 was the hottest trick around for a few years, until the cork 3 (Tanner again, in Session 1242) took over.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Tanner was also the first to do alley-oop flat 3s in the pipe in competition.

That was so sick, old ski movies are so much better than the new ones, none of this 10 switch up and dub 1620 shit. Also, what happened to swollen members? They used to be pretty popular, I used to blast their stuff when i was skiing.

Skogen Sprang and Pete Mittenhoffer were laying down switch rodeos for a while too....can't forget them. Pete had an Oakley ad with it. Morrison used to do some dope flat 3's on hips too. Back when he was skiing a hip in Norway with McConkey? On old Enemy protos with Stuntman graphics. Maybe 'Global Storming'? I need to hook up the ol' VCR and watch some old flicks again.

Tanner is a legend. I cant believe he still shreds as hard as he did back in the day, He will never fully be done

Like a Lion really opened my eyes about Tanner. Used to think he was a mega douche nozzle but now I have mad respect for him. Watching all his old movies always gets me stoked, guy shreds hard. Good to see him back on his feet and hitting the slopes again. and yeah, he pretty much pioneered the flat spin.

Swollen Members is now touring the Maritimes. They did a show at Union Street Bar in Corner Brook Nfld. a few weeks ago. This means they are probably pretty desperate for shows.

i'm pretty sure skogen sprang did the first switch rodeo 720. and jay michelfelder did the first switch misty 720. both of these guys were doing them back in 1999 at Winter X Qualifiers in Squaw Valley. JF Cusson was probably the first to do an alley-oop flat 540 in the pipe ... i think this was in 1999, too.

You can leave out "Flat Spin". Tanner is just an original master straight up. Flat spins just happen to be one of the many things that he is a master of.

I remember him watching him get those down up one day up on the Blackcomb Glacier in 02. He was wearing a huge pair of Oakley jeans and a red Tshirt w/ sunglasses. Everyone stopped and wathced when he rolled in the the hip at the bottom of the World Mogul Lane. It was prob the first time i ever heard anyone use the term flatspin when talking about ski jumps.

I feel the exact same, before I was like he's so over rated and douche but you watch the movie and see how hard he's really worked to get to where he's at and in the meantime he's a numerous career threatening injuries and he gets right back up and kills it harder than before

J.F. Cusson was the original flatspin master for sure. Nobody knew of Tanner when J.F. was throwing them.

Cusson did the first flat spin 540 in the pipe. Philou did the first switch rodeo 5. Tanner did the first rodeo 7 in competition and flat 3 i believe.

yep, i think youre right on all counts. i would NOT like to be the dude to try the first switch rodeo. those things still scare me even on an airbag

I agree. J.F. "invented" a shit ton of tricks... I'd say J.F. Cusson and Jon Olsson are 1 and 2 for trick creators in this sport.

dude, i forgot about mehrhof. yeah, he was doing switch rodeos back in 2000, too, out of mamoth. went straight to college rather than ski pro i think.

There is a difference between 'cork 3' and the 'flat 3' aka the 'crooked backflip' off jumps. Usually executed with a japan or safety grab and usually most cleanly done on a hip. (Getting totally flat.)
Cork 3's were actually done when people were still riding long ass non-twin skis.Clint Fiala and Kreitler had these dialed. Kids now get way more inverted on some Cork 3s and really style them out, but Clint is all tucked up in a little ball on some 220's on the cover of 'Boards in Motion back in 97/98. Twin tips didn't start the trickery, it just made it all easier.

flat 3s were T-Hall's signature trick in Johnny Mosely's Mad Trix. Not sure why i remember that.
