within the past couple years he has recieved sum high end sponsers and it seems that every interview ive seen with him lately hes had an energy drink in one hand and a pair of armadas for the next year in the other while constantly referring to his sponsers and not even answering the questions... it seems like hes forgetting the skiing asoect and is more focused on making money (not necessarily a bad thing), but is this the start of pro skiers turning into the asshole pros of sum other sports?

that's life.  you need to make money to live.  if you were in his shoes you'd be doing the same thing.

i think the whole idea of "selling out" is stupid. theres no such thing as selling out. you either make moves and make money, or you dont. tanner hall is making moves.

First off the energy drink sponsor was just a bad arguement to direct towards Tanner when peter oleneick gets payed more than many skiers make total just to have a GAY monster sticker on his truck. Not to mention the fact many energy drink sponsors pay double what ski companies give some skiers, thats FUCKED. Now Tanner started Armada so no wonder he is backing it to the fullest, it is his major financial investment that he is counting on. If you think tanner is trying to make money you are right, he would be stupid not too. However to say he is selling out is retarded. If you think he is selling out then you should shift your focus towards the people who arent progressing (other than amplitude) hahaha

selling out and "just trying to get some extra money" is the same thing...someone doesnt mean to sell out... i dont blame him for what he's done.

there is such a thing as selling out

when someone stops skiing for enjoyment and pleasure, and "makes moves" towards only skiing when it makes them money they have sold out

urban dic.:

1. When an artist conforms to the way record labels, managers, etc see them to make money through commercial success and generally not the original fan base.

same thing for skiing, when someone does a interview and says what their sponsors want them to such as "redbull is x-treme" or whatever, they are no longer themselves and are people that have sold themselves to sponsors

so indeed, you need to make money and moves, but you can sellout

still don't believe me? watch Brink.

in an industry as small as freeskiing, "selling out" is the only way you can make enough money to live solely on skiing, like tanner does. still dont believe me? i guess youre retarded

How does that effect someone's skiing at all? Also, Tanner created Armada(with JP and others), so he's probably going to rep it pretty hard.

let me reiterate something, I said "when someone stops skiing for enjoyment and pleasure", I am speaking hypothetically and am not slamming Tanner, but when you stop skiing for fun and do it solely for the money, I believe you have sold out

and I'm also not saying supporting sponsors affects your skiing, because that is the way most pro's are able to keep skiing at that level, but when they replace their own selves with what corporate wants, they have sold out

there is not much of this now but it definitely happens in other sports

In your first post, you said there is no such thing as selling out, which was the only reason I replied. So which one is it?

I think that he is just proud to rep for his sponsors... He has a great love for the sport and without his sponsors he might not be this far... He is just thanking them.

^^Steve is right.

Snojibber just wants Tanner to be a "soul skater" like him,

Disney_-_Brink.jpg

I know it's hard to understand at this point but eventually mommy and daddy can't sponsor your rock'n roll lifestyle Paris Hilton. Pros gotta rep and get $$$

skater??? ok?

referring bak to t-hall= well i gess that settles it, he's not a sellout... he just likes to make money, which i cant blame him for... cuz everybody luvs money

ive enlightened myself on the movie "Brink", it seems like a super gay disney movie that i shouldve watched in 5th grade, o well, my bad

this thread wasnt made to hate on thall or any other pro skiers, i was just curious on ur opinions referring to the act of "selling out" or if its morally ok cuz all pros hav to do it to get paid

Mark Abma... but that's not what i really wanted to post about anyway.

it seems like it's the same type of whiny people who complain about pros "selling out" but then are super interested in how to get sponsored. stop bitching about "sell outs", stop asking how to get sponsored, start skiing because it's fun, and realize pro skiers are basically part of the marketing department and it's THEIR JOB to hype their sponsors, so it might happen from time to time.

aren't there more important things to worry about than whether or not Tanner Hall is selling out? perhaps the identity of the blonde in the picture with a photoshopped pregnant Grete?

hha true, by getting sponsored you are promoting a company for benefits. so everyone who is on ns that wants to get sponsored is essentially aiming towards "selling out". that is of course u use the definition of selling out everyone on here uses. pros need money for lifes essentials, they get sponsors. everything requires a tradeoff. u dont just get sponsored by a company and not try to promote it. then there'd obviously be no reason to sponsor people.

if i was tanner hall, and i was offered a huge money deal by red bull...i would have two options, deny it, and stay "core" or accept it, make a better life for myself while still enjoying skiing, and be considered a "sellout" by some cuntmuscle on NS.

i dont really think i have to finish this thought. thread over.

This thread makes me feel lucky that nobody accused me of selling out when I got my first job.

he was so sick and had his own thing going, video parts gagnster style

and got no recognition. the ski industry killed my favourite tanner, why!?

hes still sick but not the same, and its not his fault.

if red bull paid you $20,000 a year to drink there product youd probably hype up redbull as much as you could too.

tanner hall isnt going to be skiing on the same level as he is in 10 years. he's gotta make money now.

I wrote some thing very interesting but I think someone didnt like it as it is now not on here.

It went along the lines of Hall being a cock. He thinks he is skiing. In his new film he chats about how necessary it is to take skiing back to the mountains, who does he think he is!? At what point did it leave the mountain? Just beacause he has been stuck in the park like a the rat that he is, he thinks that nothing has been going on. You dont hear Morrison or any other 'real' skier chatting that shit, they just go and do it.

I know skiing needed to move forward and he has been a major part of that movement but people must agree that there is nothing more rediculous than seeing some kind of 'plastic gangster' up a fuckin mountain. There arnt many sports that are less ganster than skiing, well maybe swimming!

Hall needs to sort his life out, he is one of the best freestyle skiers out there but he acts like a mug. He thinks he's hard cos he smoked some weed and has baggy trousers. I hope he stays in the park because people like to emulate him and I dont want to see a load of big headphoned, super baggy trouser, first time beard growing, shite chatting fool getting the first lines!!

He shouldnt have won the Xgames either, Dumont shit on him.
