Symetric skis are so hot right now

more and more companies are jumping on the boat, but my question is does it really improve skiing switch all that much? do you notice the difference?
 
its real nice, like fucking a victoria's secret model. except you probably dont know what thats like, so symmetrical skis would be the next best thing
 
ya they give you a lot more stability and control when carving switch but they can not ski pow or trees at all
 
i never noticed a huge difference like the 5-10 mm that non symetrical skis differ from tip and tail really has very little affect, there is no huge gain with a symetrical ski that i have noticed as long as you center mount your good
 
i didnt notice a ton of difference with my invaders. but that was probly cause i didnt ski switch much on my far back mounted pe's.
 
Symmetrical skis are retarded. Your body doesn't move the same way when you ski forward and backward so you obviously don't ski the same way. Just making skis symmetrical is lazy. Ski companies have done tons of research figuring out ski shapes and flexes for skiing forward. Why hasn't anyone done that for skiing switch? A ski that is truly made for equal amounts of forward and switch skiing should not be symmetrical.
 
ok so obviously symetrical would be better than a regular carving ski because the arc of the sidecut is shifted back for a carve ski so when riding switch its like having a ski with sidecut up on the tips (really its on the tails, but when switch its the front of the ski). Having symetrical atleast moves it closer to a normal sidecut when you are switch. the guy above me is stupid. companies are obviously working on it buddy. it takes time though genius. each year they ahve to come out with a new ski so they ahve to take the progression of developing step by step. Therefore have symetrical sidecut is one step closer to developing a ski designed to ski very well switch (not that symmetrical skis dont ski well switch).
 
... you don't really get physics and geometry, do you? Going forward favors a bigger tip than tail, going backwards favors a bigger tail than tip. Therefore, if a ski were designed for EQUAL AMOUNTS of forward and backward riding it would be symmetrical because shifting the sidecut or the length or width towards either end would upset the balance.
 
i didnt notice much difference in switch skiing at all. i had invaders and i think they skied switch much worse, but that mighta been because they are just piece of shit skis. i like my t-halls and ARV's switch much better.
 
but the physics of the body and the way your body moves forward and backward is very different, i think this is what he is saying, still there is really no need for a perfectly symetrical ski, but they do look good and work well
 
Exactly. A symmetrical ski is better than one made for skiing forward, but companies are saying that it's the answer to skiing switch. As far as tip and tail width go, it may be best for them to be the same, but a symmetrical flex is not the answer (the physics of taking off and landing are also different when switch is compared with regular.).
 
My invaders so were so nice switch. So much fun. My far back mounted pe's were not good switch. when i skied them, i just felt like I was washing out for every turn. the invaders are still better than my near center mounted dorions too.
