I live in sydney, and there are a lot of unconfirmed "facts" all over the place.

1) It is not an ISIS attack. Two men are in the cafe, potentially with a shotgun and machete.

The mean are aged in their 40-50s. Very different from IS who use young people. The flag is noticeably different.

2) The area the cafe is in is significant because, a couple of months ago, there were very large police raids carried out across melbourne, sydney, and brisbane. Intel gathered in the lead up and during the raids suggested there was a plan to behead a member of the public in martin place, the centre of Sydney's cbd, where this cafe is located. I doubt they are related, it could just be a coincidence, or these two men chose this place after hearing those plans.

This is making big news in australia because this doesnt ever happen over here. There has been little to no information revealed by the police, so nearly everything you read is pure speculation.

5 hostages have escaped.

4 videos were posted on youtube, containing footage of the hostages outlining the demands made by the suspect. These have since been removed from Youtube but can still be found on Facebook. Everyone is being urged not to share them so as not to add weight to his cause, so please respect that.

It's worth noting that one of the demands - for an ISIS flag to be delivered to the site - is allegedly not being met as it is the flag used in the background of ISIS beheadings.

It has also been suggested that his lack of regard for his identity indicates he doesn't expect to come out the other side of this in one piece...
