Switching to skiing

So i'm switchin to skiing, and i was wondering what kind of skis youd recommend for a beginner? my buddies have suggest all kinds, and i really have no clue whats best

i would just start doing a little reasearch and see what will fit you best. there are really good deals right now so it would be smart to pick up a pair now.

you can check some of these websites if you have not already

evogear.com

tramdock.com

untracked.com

maybe ebay

no way im getting anything other than twintips

and ive been checkin all over evo gear...

my buddies said to look at scratch fs, but idk maybe pricy for a 1st ski

$300 really isn't too pricy. Especially for a new ski liek scratch wrs. Once next season rolls around the cheapest ski you'll get (at retail, new) is invaders, at $300. Taking everything in, scratchs are a high quality ski, and i haven't heard anything but good things about them. You'll be able to ski them for a while, probably get to ski them for 2 full seasons as long as you get the right sizes and don't harass the shit outta them.

That's true, and the nothin but trouble are cheap at evogear right now. Also, you could get the madtrix, not sure how those are but i know head skis are very durable.

either way, to get a ski which you'd like, we need you weight+height, and if you'd prefer stiffer or softer ski.

yeah, ill probably go with scratch fs wrs anyway, those have looked the best to me.

i have no clue about what type of boots i should get tho

boots is a whole nother story. go get fitted at a local ski shop, if you got none, go to a ski market or something, whatever. just go try on every boot you see, and decide which you like the most.

lots of people will say rampage/spk, i wear rampages only because i got fitted to them and after trying on 6 other boots the shop reccomended me they fit me the best. you don't even haev to go specific freestyle boot, just try on boots and see what you like.

i wouldn't gat anything to flashy, like line or armada, that creates an image problem when ur just starting, and eople will prbly get all up on u about it, get scratches or something lie that

Dood who cares. They are skis and if you like the way they feel, or you just like them, get them. And if people get on your case about what kind of skis you have for your ability level, who gives a shit. You have to start somewhere.

I like the switch! this is happening alot now...welcome to skiing bro! As far as the skis go get something that best fits your weight and height.

I like Volkl skis - they always seem to be really well made and can take some abuse.

If you are keen to learn freestyle skiing - then the Dogen would be a reasonable choice.

yo check out colorado freeskier. they have alot of their stuff on sale now and you need to support shops that support our movement,

yeah speaking of image problems. when you suck don't wear 4xl tall t's. little kids will think you are the best skier ever. It happened to me the other day and i'm like sorry to disapoint you but i can't do that shit.

on skis scratchs are good. i've ridden a pair and they were nice. i like my troublemakers more. BUt hey i made the switch last year to my TM's and they were fine. The only thing i sugest is to not get center mounting. STICK WITH RECOMENDED.

for bindings, get anything from the look px12 collection (px 12, jibs, scratchs, axials, etc.) They're basically all the same.

I'm about 5'8" for the record, and im not too worried about the whole image thing cuz i don't go for the suburban gangsta look

ok, maybe sometimes, but rarely

whats the difference between Look PX12 Lifter's and Ti Lifters?

I definately want something sturdy for a binding, cuz my buddy went through three pairs this past season, and we live in freaking ohio. it's not like we're hittin huge stuff out here

check your shops, cuz skis are gunna be going on sale soon cuz of spring, so you will get some real good deals im sure

That's silly. Just go buy skis that you like, or whatever is cheapest. mount them up, go skiing...

simple as that.

Also take a ski lesson. My friend is self taught and he skis pretty well. But right now he is really depressed, 'cause he has realized that to get to the next level he basically has to unlearn all his bad habits and start from scratch. just my .02

haha yeah, a lesson or two might be smart

and damn, those fujatives look tight, and the price is good too at evogear

Fuji's would be an awesome first ski

I switched to skiing this year from boarding and it was really easy, as long as you are a good snowboarder it is basically the same thing.

im 17 and 5'8"ish

my buddy tried skiing this year and he said it was tough, but i picked up the basics of boarding in about a day, so im not worried about learning to ski

i think any light ski would work for you... i would get something around the 175ish range if i was you. a 5 cm difference wont make a difference so give or take 5 cm. just get a cheap pair of twins, line invaders or K2 fujatives.

why would you do that everyone thinks snowboarding is cooler i wish i could snowboard so i was cooler

now you risk the acl/mcl dual tear that we all get on our first season

skiboards.

seriously. at least spend a few days on rental skiboards. they will help a TON.

they are gay as hell, but its even gayer to barely make it down the hill on a pair of nice skis.

then, buy some fujatives or something softer like that

are skiboards the same thing as skiblades? cuz i've never heard of skiboards until i saw them last night while looking for skis...

Twiptip freeriders ripping fast and landing switch looks way cooler than snowboarders. Also, Expert snowboarders will never be able to ride the snow as fast as an expert skier. Four edges is always better that two.

Anyway, I also believe that you should by some twintips that you like and grow into them. Don't buy skies to short, They always try to get beginners to go shorter. In my opinion, Salomon boots feel the most comfortable and get the best fit. One more thing, Don't buy skies less than 80mm under foot.

One more thing. Always mount them a little forward, doesn't matter what your style of skiing is. A good guide line is to find the center of the running surface and put the ball of your foot on it. Do this with your boots on.

im guessing your switching for the park? if so, get some lines, maybe invaders, or k2 fujatives, both fairly cheap, but good skis

Yeah, I'd have to agree there is way more steez in skiing than in boarding, especially in park. (Although I'll still like boarding forever)

I'm decided on PX 12 Ti's and its a toss up between Scratch FS's or Fujatives...
