Switching phones on verizon

So long story short my phones trashed, like a few numbers dont work and there was a ton of water in my battery so now im in the market for a new phone. im not the one who pays my bills for my phone my dad is. So I just want to be able to get another phone, and then switch it to my current plan that I have now. Do I have to have him with me to do this? Or is there someway I can get around having to use his social and stuff. Thanks
 
yea i just tried but it said i cant because im not the person that pays the bills. the reason i made this thread is because I dont think im doing it right and stuff.
 
well he dident have a password for his verizon wireless account but a username. so i made a password and when i go to add a device it says I cant because im not the account owner. but on my profile it says I dont even have an account owner.
 
and i heard you can do it online but they ask you like whats my dads social. i have no fucking idea what it is... i just want a new phone.
 
ur dad is the primary account holder right now, if you want him to keep paying ur bills then u have to stay under his name
if u make ur own account u have to be at least 18 and go to the store for it (unless they have an option to do this over the phone or online)

if you take an old phone from a friend you don't need rents, or at least none of my friends who have done this ever did, they just had to walk into the store, and then the people their checked the number to make sure it wasn't stolen, and then switched it. But this is also with old phones, idk about new ones, but its prbly more official
