Switching from snowboarding to skiing?

Anybody done it? i skied until i was like 8 and for the last 9 years have boarded...dont know why i switched, cuz skiing looks so much better...anyways i was just wondering how hard the switch is and any ideas you guys have...no need to turn this into a hate thread.

no since you skied before you should be pretty set, my friend is a boarder but used to ski. he bought skis and skis the odd time and kills it for barely skiing much.

build a summer setup that will help you out a lot with rails, then jumps your have to wait for the winter

same, i can 7 both ways on a snowboard and now want to go to skiing, i did like 15 times this year. i can hit any size jump, i just suck at rails

did the same thing. like same exact thing. skied till 8 switched for bout 9 years. went back this march. fucking love it. it all comes back to you in no time

skiing switch actually isnt that hard it just takes time to get used to it and like everything after a little practice you'll be doing entire green and blue runs switch. There has been some other threads on this so search those to see what other people have said. I'd say do it.

i used to snowboard.. then i also made the move to skiing. I love it. Skiing is unreal and cant really be compared to snowboarding. Its easier (the actual skiing part) and in the park its way more fun!
Make the switch! youll love it!

how much different is sliding rails on skis then a snowboard? and about how long would it be until your adjusted to skis?

I switched from board to skis this year. The switch actually wasnt that bad, ive never skied b4 until this season and dude, im never getting back on the one planker. No joke i could slide a little box on my like 6th time up :) ull get it easy especially if u have skied before, just make sure u can ski well again before hittin park

i just got my friend to switch back to skiing, he only skiied when he was like really young and turns and just riding groomers came back to him within the first day, then to help with rails and stuff its good to have a friend who can ski rails well to push you and help you with the first steps for sliding. i have been pushing my friend for half a season now and he is starting to push me to try new tricks now. All in all though getting basic stuff down again comes really fast and then rails and skiing powder takes a bit more time.

I did the same thing w/ snowboarding as the OP, and its def worth it. Skiing park came a lot more naturally, and in 2 years I have progressed far beyond anything I could do after 8 snowboarding. DO IT

thats what i was going for, it just seems like spinning and rail would come alot more natural on skis compared to a snowboard....i downright suck at park on a snowboard, but this season was pretty much my first in the park so i guess i shouldn't expect too much

I did exactly that this past season, and the only thing I am mad about is that I didnt do it sooner. Not sure how hard it is to switch...I started off boarding, but the first day I put on a pair of skis it just made sense to me. I could do it, without really knowing what I was doing. My brother also changed over with me and he had a bit tougher time getting used to the change.

If you are a coordinated person though it shouldnt be a problem. the second time we went, his friend who had been skiing for years came and gave us little pointers that helped make things easier. I would say go for it. I only ended up being able to go skiing 4x this season, but already love it so much more than I ever did boarding. Take a day and rent some gear...ride all day, by the end of the day you will be able to make your decision...please to try to have some stranger on NS make it for you. Try for yourself

when my brother switched back to skiing he seperated is shoulder first day. but that's cuz he's dumb and he tried a difficult rail right away

I made the switch after never skiing once and snowboarding for 7 years this past season. Best decision of my life. I never thought it could be possible, but skiing makes me even happier than snowboarding did.

You'll progress quicker than you think, believe me.

I snowboarded for 15 years since I was 3 years old and snowboarded 100+ each year for the past four years. Then I came to UVM and picked up skiing and was hitting every feature on Stowe's park the first day and able to throw 5's like nothing day one

the switch from skiing to boarding is really hard, but from boarding to skiing is really easy.i have like 5 friends that switched to skiing and they are all really good now after their first season. you should def do it. +k

did the same thing homie. skied til I was 18 tho, then switched to boarding. just came back to skiing 2 years ago. DO IT. obviously not all the skills translate, but it definitely helped my skiing with balamce, switch etc. much more rewarding to ski, and practical- just look at the top of the lift

I did it, it might seem Weird having to relearn everything, but i feel like im progressing faster on skis and doing better stuff than on a snowboard

i made the switch from boarding to skiing about 3 or so years ago. i fell head over heels in love and haven't even touched my board since. Make the switch......DO IT!!!

I started skiing when i was about 6, then i switched to snowboarding for about 5 years, and just the past season I rediscovered skiing and I absolutely love it. It was so much fun, and even by the end of the season I was riding switch and I could do some double blacks. MAKE THE CHANGE!

Change, i skiied 4-6 years old, then snowboarded for 7 years and switched back to skiing a few years ago. just being used to being on snow helps with both skiing and snowboarding. i thought it was real easy to pick up again and its so much more versatile and fun than boarding. make the switch

last winter, i boarded for 6 years, tried skiing, asked myself why the fuck have i been wasting my time on a board, skiing is way better hands down

easiest way to learn to slide rails is pretend you're jumping on a skateboard from the back

I'm doing this in the fall but not to hit park just to ride all mountain and be able to tour easier. ...and to stop having to ask my skier friends to pull me through flat spots that I wasn't ready for.

There's no way you would get hate in a thread about switching to skiing. Do it man! good luck, and if you need any help you know where to look
