Switch or fakie

was just thinking this. Fakie and switch have absolutely nothing to do with rotations. Switch makes more sense because you going backwards instead of forwards. Fakie refers to your feet, which one is infront. Last time I checked I don't ski with my feet perpindicular to the direction I want to go.

Sorry foot direction part is incorrect. But on swith ups you rotate 180 degrees on rails. So on ground when you pop into switch it's technically a sw up. Thus making you ski switch. That's the way I see it atleast.

when i gave him karma 2..it went from 8 to 9 :D

it's switch...the word fakie is for french guys :P

I know skiers like to just ignore the rest of action sports and think they can re-invent trick definitions. At least that is what is seems like from all your responses. Fakie or Cab is the correct term for skiing backwards. Switch and Unnatural essentially mean the same thing.

When you are spinning from a forward or backward position, there is no front side or backside. just left or right, and everyone has a natural way they spin just like they write with one hand. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day, but you guys are just ignoring every other sport that pioneered these terms.

sure someone brought it to skiing, but it was not invented through skiing.

I was gonna make my own post but this saved me a lot of typing. who decided on the retarded way we name tricks anyway?

in skiing, its always been called switch. yeah its stupid that its different from every other action sport but its close to impossible to change the meaning of "switch" in skiing now....everyone takes it as skiing backwards. not spinning un-natty. you're making a valid point, but its obvious you're not going to be able to change anyones mind, based on the responses. just accept it man.

*your... and this thread is a fail. have you ever heard anyone say fakie when referring to skiing? i mean what sounds better, switch cork 7 or fakie cork 7? fakie just sounds retarded

actually i read some magazine (k2 freeze) and it stated that technically skiers cant ride switch and that it is infact fakie

haha i find it funny that someone made a thread about this because my friend has been trying to convince me that it should be called fakie for a good year or two now.

no. fakie triple rodeo 12... i'll stick with switch.
it doesn't matter what you think anyway. no one who already says switch is going to change their verbage to fakie, even though it does make sense.

Actually, I think in when Cusson did the first sw 720's in the X-Games they were internationally called fakie 720 and so on. Whatever you call it, don't call someone gay if they name tricks like the way they want to.

as a rollerblader i almost always referred to backwards skiing as fakie. but now that im more into skiing ive adapted to switch.

what is bad ly adapted is how we describe spinning. "un-natural" is such a long thing to say in a trick.

for instance. a switch un-natural 720 could simply be a fakie switch 7.

Thank you!! we aren't fkn snowboarders, and we dont have to blindly follow their nomenclature when it obviously isn't relevant.
Switch, end of story.
if you disagree, go fakie yourself

I left for 7 years and came back to find this as the most recent post? Haven't you guys carved this one in stone yet?

It's switch. Sheesh.

Fail thread.
If skiing chooses to "ignore" other action sports trick names, then thats the way it is. Skiing is a sport in it's own right, and can therefore name tricks the way they want. You cannot say that switch is incorrect, because to 99.9 % of skiers it means skiing backwards, therefore making it the CORRECT term for this.
OP you're a douchebag, and i suggest you GTFO!

If skiing can choose to "name tricks how it wants" why would it use trick names that already exist only change the meanings? it does not make any sense, if they completely changed them then that'd be cool but to take something that already has a different meaning and change it seems silly to me.

I mean I use the stupid names that have caught on but it still pisses me off.

what happens when you do a kickflip on a skateboard then do it the opposite stance

you have a switch kickflip

fakie would be if you ollied with the front of your board going in your opposite stance

because backwards is the opposite stance from forwards i believe switch is accurate unless we start doing little reverse tail ollies or "fakie ollies" off all the jumps

why the fuck would you bump this?

I you do any trick the way that it is natural for you to do it going backwards it is called fakie, if you do a trick the way that it is unnatural for you to do it moving forwards it is called switch. if you do it unnatural and backwards its switch fakie. why should skiing be different when everyone else follows this? just cos you don't fakie ollie on skis it doesn't make your logic work.

Switch, not fakie. but when you come in switch and you do a unatty spin, is it called cab ? i know, who cares but im just wondering since the thread already is here

So? Skiers should just borrow words from other sports so we fit in? Ok, while we're at it lets call lincon loops kickflips and 360's tail whips.
