How come skiing switch on skiis is going backwards, but on ever other sport fakie is going backwards.

on a skateboard, fakie is going backwards, rollerblading fakie is going backwards, skiboarding, fakie is going backwards, BMX fakie is going backwards.

n e time i see or read n e thing about a skier going off a jump backwards...its refered to a a 'switch 360 (or whatever trick)' mostly heard switch, sometimes fakie

dude, switch is a trick, like u do a switch cork 5. That's the same in all sports, u can say either switch or fakie, but switch sounds so much cooler.

i say them both

usually switch is referred to followed by a trick, but sometimes i'll just say 'i was skiing switch'

so it really is very inconsistent, just whatever i feel like saying.

I don't understand why people call shit fakie while snowboarding or skiing. Fakie is riding a skateboard in your normal footing but rolling backwards so you are up on the nose but in your comfortable footing. Switch is riding opposite of what you normally would. Cab is spinning frontside while riding fakie or switch.

 
y don't u just say ur going backwards? If you can't decide between switch or fakie just say backwards.

Yes, there is no distinction between fakie and swtich in skiing, so they are interchangable.

If cab were to be used, I think it should refer to switch unnatural spins, since in snowboarding a cab is switch frontside, which is the less natural switch spin to most snowboarders.

 
but they call switch unnaty spins dirty now...i agree tho, in that situation i'd use cab...if it was a regular switch trick like a switch 5 I call it switch, but if someone slides a rail to switch i call it to fakie.

Dirty refers to just spinning unnatty. Who the fuck cares if you call it switch or fakie, we all know it means the same thing. And I read somewhere that a cab is a switch/fakie 360, like in skateboarding, a fakie 360.

switch is kinda same as unnatural in skateboarding, so it would be logical to call unnatty switch in skiing too, but fuck it. everybody's using it when they mean going/taking off/landing backwards, and there is no analogy between skiing and skateboarding(like skateboarding and snowboarding). Besides no one really gives a fuck.

 
I think switch sounds better than fakie.

cab is a skateboarding term. Its short for caballerial which is a switch 360. According to lines website switch is spinning unnatural and fakie is riding/landing/taking off backwards. Switch is backwards. Fakie is backwards. Cab can be backwards too. It doesnt matter. Call it back'ards if you want.

i think russell is right. switch has been adopted from snowboarding when you really can ride 'backwards'.

as for the people who say 'who cares', well, you're right, but its just amusing to find the background and reasoning to the names we use, and who uses each term.
