SWINE FLU

im having this kid at school going around telling everyone he has a stomach ache but it feels different yet familiar, and he feels really clammy

He probably doesn't, the chances are so slim. I bet every boarding school has one kid they think has swine flu. A boy in my class has been tested for it, he just got back from Mexico and he's really sick. I doubt he has it..

yeah but the outbreaks have been happening in NYC. my school is about 5 miles out of manhattan, and half of our kids are from the city.

i never got the flu vaccine so idk, i'm not fucking around.

this is a time where we should honestly send kids home that are complaining of any kind of symptoms to help contain this

as soon as there is 1 confirmed case in oregon my mask and bandanna are going on immediately. it can never hurt to be overly safe

how many people die a year from the regular flu virus? in the thousands.

its fear mongering in the news.

i'm going to go to the grocery store and buy a package of maple leaf bacon. listeriosis and swine flu never tasted better.

20 thousand americans die yearly from normal flu

the one U.S. fatality from swine flu was a 2 year old kid with serious pre-existing health problems.

out of 300 million people in the country, 50 people infected. 7% mortality rate for those infected world wide, 2% in the U.S.

remind me why people are scared again? this whole situation is absolutely ridiculous.

scary thing is that my chemistry teacher's nanny for her kids has been in contact with three out of four people in a town called port perry on ontario who possibly have swine flu and my teacher told the nanny not to come take care of her kids becuase of it

just play xbox live all day and all night. the virus cannot be passed through xbox live. YET.

but lets all move to alaska and start an NS town. no swine flu allowed.

People are not scared of the numbers/stats. Most people are scared of the fact that the virus has the ability to travel person to person. This is something that the H5N1 virus never had the ability to do.

I'm not saying i think this is going to get to the point where it's a pandemic, or even something we should be fearing. Because i don't think it will. I'm just telling you why people are making a bigger deal of this.

Right now it is neither appropriate to panic nor blow it off. At this time, we only know how many people have died from it, we do not know how many people have survived it. Until we find out how many people get the disease and end up fine, and from there figure out the mortality rate, we don't know whether to treat it like another bird flu or SARs or if it is the pandemic that we are overdue for.

sigh...
its really not that big of a deal ... the regular flu kills around 40,000 people a year
and im sorry; everyone saying that its a conspiracy; your an idiot ... were well overdue for a pandemic and new virus come from a little thing called natural selection ...
worrying about stupid shit prob kills more than all flus combined

Media is blowing it way out of porportion

The media says its going to be a pandemic

it will not get to that point as soon as they find a vaccine it will probley be given out to eberybody it will be gone by a month

you dont even watch the news lol...

they have a vaccine but there potential may not be enough of it.

it claimed its first child today in texas. rip.

the swine flu is now so bad in mexico, that they are playing all 176 professional soccer games without fans, in order to stop the spreading of the flu-just on sportscenter. this is getting pretty serious...had the first death in the US today in NYC

we just got a bulletein posted on our schools homepage about how severe the swine flu is and if you have symptoms, I live in wisconsin

176 soccer games in mexico are now spectatorless because of it, seems serious there but were the god damned united states of america.

Oh yeah I know that, but colds and regular flu don't kill 7% of people that get it. Like this has so far. I still don't think this is or will be a problem, I'm just saying it should be watched.

my buddy just got back from mexico with 2 friends and they have symtoms, theyre on the news 2nite

just saw that on the news.

it's also becoming quite popular on Facebook. There is a group where you can become a "fan" of swine flu. people are disgusting.

keep in mind i'm not accusing you of fearmongering, i just want to debate the illness itself.

i was wrong, it's not actually 7%, it's a fraction of that. the 7% was based off the assumption that 150+ people had died. the WHO came out today announcing that there have only been... drumroll... 8 deaths.

thank you 24 hour news cycle.
