SWINE FLU

what i was gonna say. media always makes such a huge deal about these "scares". very rarely do they ever get really bad and last a long time. remember SARS?

fear = money

Fuuck that. I have a feeling its gonna be like the bird flu, a bunch of hype for a bunch of bullshit. Scientists are just paranoid cause they think we are over due for an epidemic. Also I think its a story that was played up to take our mind on the true problem, the economy. Thats my opinion, I may be right I may be wrong.

Yea people in the country are completely oblivious, there all freaking out about some flu that has not killed a single person in the US, yet no one is freaking out about the number of people that died in car accidents.

Ominous similarities exist between the swine flu and the 1918 pandemic virus that killed millions around the globe, from a shared "death profile" of 20-to-40-year-olds to an ability to spread rapidly among humans, experts say.

Some warn the swine flu outbreak has all the hallmarks of a pandemic. Others say it may be no worse than normal flu.

The confirmed death toll in Mexico is 20, with a likely total of 149 deaths, according to a national health ministry spokesman. There are now 40 confirmed cases in the United States, all mild, in five states. Six "mild" cases have been reported in Canada but that number could rise as officials await test results from several provinces.

No one can predict whether the swine flu is capable of morphing into a strain capable of unleashing a severe global pandemic.

"The bottom line is, we really don't know," says Dr. Brian Ward, an expert on viruses, vaccines and pandemics at McGill University in Montreal.

Experts don't know because important numbers are still missing. No one knows how prevalent the illness is. There could be millions of infected people in Mexico, with only the most severe cases ending up in a clinic or hospital, meaning what we're seeing is only the severe end of the spectrum.

"If it's 80 deaths on a background of 2,000 cases, that's really, really bad," says Ward, associate director of The Research Institute of McGill University Health Centre. "If it's 80 deaths and 1,300 hospitalized on a background of 10 million, it's still perhaps worse than the seasonal flu and a funny pattern. But it's not the same kind of hair-raising scenarios that the former numbers would lead you to believe.

Within 24 hours, 19-year-old Pvt. David Lewis of Ashley Falls, Mass., was dead, killed by an influenza not seen since the plague of 1918-19, which took 500,000 American lives and 20 million worldwide.

Two weeks after the recruit's death, health officials disclosed to America that something called "swine flu" had killed Lewis and hospitalized four of his fellow soldiers at the Army base in Burlington County.

The ominous name of the flu alone was enough to touch off civilian fear of an epidemic. And government doctors knew from tests hastily conducted at Dix after Lewis' death that 500 soldiers had caught swine flu without falling ill.

well the bird flu was also said to have similarities, and the only reason people in mexico are dying (no offense and not trying to be racist) is due to the fact that tey cannot readily afford anti virals.

i heard the european union told all of its inhabitants not to venture to north america because of it.

thats pretty hardcore for sure...

ahahahah funny story. republicans actually axed several million in anti flu research/prevention programs because it was "pork" OOPS our bad.

cant find a source on that, but whatever. my point was more, how does a flu help his healthcare plan? it doesnt really.

it is typical media though "ZOMG YOUR GONNA DIE." as someone up there said, its like anthrax all over again. or sars. or bird flu. or killer bees. need i continue?

SO fuck Abraham Lincoln?

Fuck Ronald Reagen?

Fuck Theodore Roosevelt?

Fuck the fact that if it wasn't for the Grand Old Party we wouldn't be a nation today?

Think about it.

Plus you said "Fuck republican", which one might i ask?

They were good individuals and politicians back in the day, but useless now. Oh and yea Ronald Reagan (no offence) was a fuck, didnt do shit for our country. Oh and thats cause the h and s on my computer are screwed up.

i'm not saying that in agree with the guy who made the "fuck republicans" comment, but yes, fuck ronald reagan.
the ''Grand Old Party" has changed quit a bit since it was founded.
how would we not be a nation today without them?

Abe Lincoln. A Republican when republicans were the radical liberal party.

Ronald Reagan. Yes. Fuck Ronald Reagan.

Teddy Roosevelt, again, Republican when Republicans were an entirely different party.

However, kid cant spell for shit, and judging by his lack of a valid response, probably an idiot.

Im saying it will because if the problem is fixed, by that of which it will be by the bureaucracy, he will take all the credit for it. Just as he did when the US Navy Seals rescued the freight captain that was held hostage by the Somali Pirates, All Obama did was delay the process and isued something like 15 meetings on killing 3 pirates. Think about how long it'd must take him to use the War Powers Act, damn his 60 days would be up before entering the other country ha. But once he receives this credit for his execution of fixing the Swine Flu problem, he'll influence congress by saying that we can prevent this scare from happening again by implementing a National Heath Care System. Which would probably just make problems worst if there were indeed an epidemic, by the time people would get a doctors appointment, they'd be dead ha.

Think about it.

what the media and government is trying to say is WE ARE GONNA BECOME ZOMBIES AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rather like the previous president claims that he is single handedly responsible for keeping this country safe from another terror attack after 9/11?

Regardless, your logic is still just as dumb as it was the first time. Flu epidemics and national health care are virtually unrelated. If we were struck by the flu on an epidemic scale, it would effect everyone, the uninsured, and insured. Im thinking about it, and i think its pretty stupid logic.

Abe lincoln? maybe.

Roosevelt doubtful. Foreign Policy wise he'd be right with us, economically more left. And to who ever said "how would we not be a country today?" Think about it, only the bloodiest war in American history, the Civil War, was Reconstructed by Republicans. Now you can argue that that was Andrew Johnson, but no it wasn't. It was the Republican congress that got the succeeded States to come back to the Union. Everyone in DC hated Johnson at that time

republicans started to fix this country (again when they were liberal) then johnson did an epic job of fucking it all up hahaha.

It is stupid logic, but Obamas not thinking about that. He's using ethos(credibility) from his judgment to influence his policy making.

Plus according to the current administration, Bush's torture policy did prove valuable in preventing another terrorist attack whether you like it or not. And I'd like to see were he "Single handedly" claimed that. I never heard about. Plus your in-effective in using Bush against me because I'll probably agree on a number of issues that were wrong with him. But torture, no. I think it is perfectly acceptable when at war. I mean why not? if the other guy is going to cut your head off then why cant we torture him for something he did. Its not like we did anyhting wrong.

and thats why there were so many more republican presidents in that time period than democrats. The "waived the bloody shirt" ha, to bad that shirt is'nt red anymore. No one cares about it.

Dude are you still in high school cause thats def what I learned in 11 grade. HA ALso your Bush statement makes no sense at all, there has been no decrease in terrorist activity in Iraq since the beginning of the war. In fact there are more terror cells now then there were in the start. Recently it seems like republicans have jut screwed over this country and ran, thats why mccains dumb ass wasnt elected.

im not getting into this again (torture). my point was every president claims they are responsible for all the good shit. obviously thats not true.

and no one in congress, even some dems, would believe that kind of logic.

on a side note. anyone watch the daily show? its making fun of the media hype of this flu and its pretty funny

^ no deff saying that it prevented attacks form happening in this country, not Iraq. Like preventing another 9/11, since a lot of people act like its impossible for something like that to happen again, even though it easily could.

And yes I am still in high school, 11th grade in fact. Got a problem with that?

i'm headed to central america for a month, leaving on weds. i sure fucking hope this thing dosn't get serious. ill be spending time in guatamala as well (first country south of mexico for the non-geographers out there). my concern isnt so much getting sick but getting stuck down there if travel gets locked down.

well Im pretty sure that extremely heightened security at airports had

a lot to do with it to. And yea you can be a naive fuck, you have to

look around everything that happened around 9/11 and the politics

involved. if you still think it just happened because a bunch of pissed

off Arabs were mad at Americans (no offense) your a dumb ass. And yeah, your probably arguing with a bunch of smarter college kids, that actually get how politics work.

its so much more than that. for one thing, were now in afghanistan and iraq. now let me ask you, would you rather kill people in your own country conveniently and with little consequence? or in their country where you could get caught and killed, or have to kill yourself in order to kill others. idk about you, but id rather just kill em in my home land. we brought the infidels to them, we made it easier for them.
