Swimming question

hey how long should it take an average swimmer to swim 500 yards? im considering joining the airforce and part of a special forces pre test is to swim 500 yards in like 11 minutes. so im trying to gauge what i need to work on.
the test is a 1.5 mile run in under 11 minutes then pushups then the swim 500 yard swim, then sit ups, then flutter kicks and pull ups. all done in a really tightly timed block with not much rest. so im trying to see what it would take.

the 1.5 mile run is just a regular PT test and not for SF which I am assuming is pararescue right? Cause I know one of my best friends who is 1st recon marines does his 3 mile run in under 16 minutes

You did say it's just a pre-test so maybe it isn't as strict..

11 min for a 1.5 mile run? That's a joke. The swim shouldn't be too bad either.

i know that run is easy. i was doing that in like 8 mins so thats not a worry. but the fact that its a consecutive test done back to back with little to no breaks obviously will change it quite a bit.

Our test had a 3 mile run, so be ready for that just in case. As far as swimming goes, I swam most of my life and I did the 500 in 5:09, and a state champ will do it in about 4:45-50. 11 minutes should be doable with a little bit of practice. You can probably drop a few minutes off of your first try just because you know what it will feel like. You can also do 50's and 100's on an interval to train up.

about half a kilometer,

so if a length and back of the pool is 50m then that would be back and forth 10 times. in 11 minutes thats easy if you have swam ever at all, in swim team that was our warm up.
