no they are totally different concepts, the swallow tail is so you sink back in powder so you wont have to sit backseat on your skis but stay in proper position, twin tips are for going switch my friend

oh really? they're for going switch? so thats what i've been doing wrong for the past 3 fucking years! the swollow tails let you sink in cause there is less surface area at the back. twin tips also have less surface area at the back do to the tip. therefore you will also sink in the back, not as much as swallow tails, but none the less you still do compaired to reg skis

at empire ski camp, kina picket had the AK Rocket swallow tail that were just out for the team riders this year, they were sweet. i think they are avalible to the public for next year

 
swallow tails also add extra length to make the ski more stable at high speeds and landings off cliffs. but since the turning edge of the ski isnt on the swallow tail the added length doesnt effect how the ski handles.

and kevywevy if your whole twin tip giving less surface area on the back be good for powder than why would K2 cut off the twin tip on the Kahuna for some people so that they ride better in powder???

The way I look at it, is that the swallow tail only limits you. If you are 35 and could care less about skiing anything backwards, fine. But everything should be twin-tipped.

 
The key is you get the stability of a longer ski for speed and cliffs while at the same time getting the tail to sink in powder, much like a shorter ski. So it's the best of both worlds, but only if you live in europe or something and just ski bottomless pow pow. East coast park rats need not apply.

The ski your talking about is the rocket pilot i think, they are swallow tailed and they're already out. Hella expensive too.

i dont think it would. it would work against its self. part of the tail would dig into the snow and pull the ski under and the turned up swallow tails would push the ski upwards. plus the point of the swallow tail is to give added length for stability while not effecting the handling, so turning up the swallow tail would take away the stability factor and would make it pointless.

the fact that people are talking about skiing on a swallow tail switch is blowing my mind. A swallow tail ski is a powder specific ski. What skimack said about the swallow tail above is correct. Why would you even think about going switch on a swallow tail? its not designed for even resort riding, maybe if you had a really huge dump would you bother brining them out. As for not being able to ride switch in pow i think its a pretty good sacrifice for getting better ski performace and stability.

what if you were to have a swallow tail in the fron and back but thed be cuverd by a hard plastic cone like next years volkl katana's but coverd swallow tail tip and tail thad be filthy for switch
 
twins maby sink a bit but ehy are centered so tere for your leaning forward more making twins not amasing for pow verse a shallow tail
