Sw Cork 5

Hey NS,

Was having a tramp session with a mate and I tried (what I think is) a switch cork 5, or at least some kind of switch off-axis rotation. I really wanna try this on snow, probably my local indoor slope, and was after some pointers for moving it from tramp to snow as in my head I'm worried about catching my tips/how you even would set it, carve a little?

I feel like I need to dial my basic switch tricks a little more but this is the kind of thing that feels fairly low risk and like something I could chuck and get around. If I was to try it soon I would definitely warm up my other switch tricks first.

Cheers

Yo that axis is $$$$$! You’d get that no problem on snow. I find a nice carve helps the rotation and definitely helps me keep the axis more flat and les flippy. For sure have switch 5’s and switch 7’s down before you try. Other than that I’d say you’re gonna stink first t!! A safety grab is also pretty key to keeping your body composed and together. Stoked to see the stomp vid!

first warm up with normal switch 5s before flipping it, but that axis is pretty perfect youd just have to slow it down depending on the jump. just be sure to pop and not huck super hard unless the jumps smaller, I do a lot of switch corks and sometimes fuck up taking off the lip. If you get the 5 down bringing it to 7 only feels easier and landing switch is a lil nicer, hope to see a clip of this landed!

I did pretty much this exact thing last year! Was comfortable on tramp then tried it on the jump. If you are good with going off jumps switch, I don't think you have to worry too much about committing and getting it around. Just send 'er and stomp it!

Hey guys, thanks for all the encouraging words and advice!

Sounds like I need to spend some time getting better at my switch tricks coz they’re something I often neglect, although I have found it much easier to spin 5s off axis than upright (misty, rodeo) although that’s probably more a sign of a poor progression trajectory than anything else...

How do you mean you fuck up the take off?

Like in my head that sw cork 5 set is easier than a sw 5 although I know that’s no excuse for being lazy on the basics! Would probably find it easier to warm up with sw 3s in all honesty. and yeah, the jump is likely to give me a little but not a load more airtime than that tramp, maybe will try more air on the tramp and slower spins before giving it a go. May have to just send it!

Will try and get a video of the stomp when it happens and post it!

Sometimes doing a switch left cork 5 my right ski will drag behind and sometimes kinda butter itself causing me to open up, so its important to be sure your skis are airborne before you go upside down

yeah this is my though, gotta really be patient with the set of the rotation otherwise that trailing ski gets hung up, right?

trying to visualise it all atm, that's kinda why i think a bit of a left carve (for sw left) would help as it keeps the leading edges off the snow and means they're less likely to catch! hoping to just try one on a small jump indoors so there's minimal consequence. feeling hyped to chuck one !
