Suspect or AR7 ??????

So, im buying skis real soon and ive narrowed it down to the suspect and the AR7. I ski a lot in the park but do a fair amount of all mountain and i like a fast base and solid edge. Im on the east coast so i get limited powder but would like a ski that can at least ski in east coast powder! Also I'm around 5'8" 140 what size you guys think?

disclaimer: i have never skied suspects

anyway... my opinion will always be armada over salomon. while ive watched armada earn a reputation for making seriously high quality shit for like ten years now (and skied them), ive seen countless complaints about salomons for the same amount of time.. it always seems to be skis that perform superbly, but dont hold up and lose their performance.. so in my mind armada vs salomon is a no brainer

just my 2 cents

If you were just skiing park I'd probably say the 171s, but if you're skiing all mtn plus some east coast pow (and esp if you're still growing) I'd def go for the 176s

i have never rode armadas, but i have a pair of 09/10 suspects. and i get so much hate on them due to the bad rep they have but mine have held up well. i have had no problems with them.but i have heard armadas make a better product so go with them

I have owned both the skis you ae looking at and there fairly similar. The suspects are marginly stiffer throughout, and give a more preciese edge hold. They also have more pop then the AR7. The AR7 is a little more playfull though and I also prefer it in powder. If your mainly a rail skier proberbly go for the AR7, if your more into jumps get the suspect.

Size wise I would go 176, im 5'11 and raide teh 181. Also armadas are about 4cm longer then salomon in the same size, so a 176 suspect will be about 4cm shorter then a 176 AR7.

Durability wise I have brocken both sarmada and salomons in teh past. I have completly destroyed my old AR6's, side wall blowout and edge tear out, I have also cracked edges and damaged teh top sheet on Salomons. Overall though I had the Suspects and the Thalls last year and they both look teh same at the end of teh season, and to be honest its the Thalls im more worried about. Having the cap tip and tail is great for swing weight, but once that area blows up Im proberbly not going to be able to fix it. At least with the suspects if they blow out, its a full sidewall ski so is much easier to fix.

Hope that helps.

I have a friend who will sell u a pare fo suspects brand new in plastic for a good deal! his users *hons*

Not saying the AR7 is a bad ski, you should go with them if that's what you want, I'm sure you will enjoy them.

However, I think most of the bad vibes about the suspects come from people who haven't actually skied them, just hear bad things from a couple people, and take that as an opportunity to trash on the big corporation (salomon). I think that Salomon makes high quality fun skis, and that the suspects, like all park skis, take a beating. They've been around for a while, so people are less likely to give them a chance then they will a brand new model from a company starting up.

I know many people will disagree with me on this, and that is fine, they are entitled to their own opinions and can ride on whatever it is that they want. But the fact of the matter is, a ski is a ski, and what you are looking at here is two high quality sticks, and unless you personally know someone who shows you physical proof that their suspects have not treated them well, I'd give em' a shot. All you will find on the internet is, "I heard they break easily". If people spent less time formulating opinions based on what they have been told from strangers on the internet, and more time actually trying products for themselves, I think they would enjoy many things they once thought they would hate.

I rode AR7s last year (And I'm going to be skiing them this year as well).

They have really been taking a beating, and they are holding up real well.

They are a lot stiffer at first, and they do soften up a tad over the season.
