Surgical gloves????

ive heard this fom a few people now is that if you where surgical gloves underneath your park gloves they keep your hands super warm and i was wondering if anyones heard of this?

umm, it probably wont do much. It'll keep them dry yes since it's a plastic coating. But with experience of washing cars in cold weather with them on, even with cold water over the top of the glove, it still gets as cold. So I'm going to say it makes no difference.

i've done this before. It keeps your hands dryer, but it feels weird and they get a bit cold. But this was under normal gloves not pipe gloves

yeah right. Your hands are gonna sweat and turn into prunes. I know b/c I spend hours and hours in nitrile gloves while doing human dissection.

I highly highly doubt it would work.

Eewwww, nitriles smell gross too and they aren't very stretchy. You're right about the wet prune fingers though, I'd never wear those things if I didn't have to.

^dude.. no. Latex ones are shit. They let the formaldehyde smell right through and you gag for the next three days when trying to eat. Nitriles (usually blue) are the best (and don't stink).

I have an unlimited supply of latex, nitrile, vinyl, and cheap garden gloves since my dad owns a warehouse that sells them.

your gonna sweat your hands off...then the sweat is gonna freeze...then your super fucked.

and nitrile gloves do smell gross by the way (although you're right about the formalin going through latex)

Ugh, I hate the smell of the latex ones, much prefer the blue nitrile ones. They smell kinda fruity to me.

Anyways, the rumors are mostly true. Latex gloves under your regular gloves to work, to an extent. They keep the sweat produced by your hands from hitting the liner and soaking it, and thus can keep your hands a little warmer. I havent tried this with pipe gloves tho, so no word from me on that yet. If you can, get powdered ones, and bring a few pairs so you dont have to put your hands back into wet slimy and cold latex gloves. The powdered ones also somewhat absorb the sweat your hands produce, but I'm a sweaty guy when I ski, so it doesnt do much.

And a box of 100 gloves will cost you about $5, unless you can find somewhere where they dont mind you snatching a box here and there (like me, yay for Neurosurgery!).

wear those mini gloves under the rubber glove, and then wear mits over top of it all wont feel sweaty, and theres no way for your hands to get wet

Yeah, I play for Clarkson University now and that's what alot of us do. We practice in weather alot colder than most of you ski in too. It only works if your hands are really warm to start though for some reason. If your hands are even a little cold when u put on the gloves they don't work. It's weird but it definately works.

ya i was just wondering if anyones tryed it and if it works because i just heard it from another person today

Its not about waterproof gloves. If your hands sweat, that moisture gets into the warm and dry layers of insulation, which can soak your gloves from the inside out. Wearing these gloves stops that moisture from getting into the lining. Of course, this is only a problem if your gloves dont breath well, but on warm pre-season and post-season days like now, wearing the latex liner can really help.

Powdered latex keeps your hands from getting sweaty. Also, even if you did sweat, the glove would keep all the moisture from leaking out into the lining and freezing. They keep your hands warmer, its a fact.
