Surface skis

At Moment we don't think square tips are progressive. There are no hard points so there is no poking. The tips don't do anything physically to the ski, it just makes them look different.
 
in my opinion, if surface wanted to have a wider range of customers, they should have a few different lengths. i think the live life and the live life 2's sound like they would be some fun skis, however 179 is just way too short for me and probably many others
 
surfaces are hand built in austria by some of the most if not the most knowlegable people in the world when it comes to how to build skis or snowboard that perform well and last a long time!

my 179 live lifes weigh less than a set of 174 foils! still with a bomber sidewall constructed full wood core carbon stringer full twin ..

my live lifes are the funnest sub 100 underfoot ski i have ever been on they have over 80 days of hard park abuse on them and nothing more than minor topsheet chips.....

simply put i have never had so much fun nor a more durable set of skis in my life then my two pair of surfaces!

a few of the bigger companies are comparable in quality but surface definately has all of the other small companies beat!

thats why surface gets my hard earned money!

if any of you have the chance to get to utah this winter i would gladly let you take some runs on any of my skis!
 
there is already new skis and sizes in the works and have been for a while...

i have heard rumors of bigger live lifes as well as a new ski called the walks of life something in the 100 - 110 underfoot all mountain ski!

surface is taking their time so they can guarantee they will be offering the funnest best built skis available for a long time...

the way i understand it, what surface is doing is creating a company that they are stoked about for what they want to do with skiing and if others follow along or even if they dont its all open arms. you can go ahead and call them snowboard biters or emo or whatever else because of their image but youre really just missing out on not being involved in some of the politics of whats cool and whats different. you could enjoy it and you could not but how about dont think about any of it and have fun?

Surface has the best skis I have ever skiied on. Ever. And the team... The nicest bunch of guys I have ever met in my life. Just plain good people with amazing talent. There is nothing to say but good things about Surface.

i like surface because they are out of utah, i ski utah, they are my community. i don't want to support a giant corporation who is more invested in racing or profit margins/trends based in europe, If i lived in europe near the salomon factory and i raced guess what i'd ride... (my first twin tips were the 1080 then the JF pro, but the new spaceframes couldn't handle the way i ride(after a week) so i moved on. I want a company that supports my community/what skiing is to me, That company is Surface.

graphics are graphics, that never stoped me because i would paint, sticker, sharpie my skis into whatever i wanted them to look like.
 
i've heard something about the walks of life ski before, anyone have any idea as to when those will be available? I need some powder skis for this winter.
 
No, i'm serious. Its not a bad thing. Pale does make OEM skis for companies and someone told me that Pale was making them. Not that it matters because so many peoples skis are pressed by others. Hell, Salomon has Fischer press some of their skis. I was just curious.

Yeah for a noob, give me the info on how the ski is made, what materials they use and why the use them and etc... and fun? Some skis aren't fun these days?

I have an idea, email Surface and ask them. I dont know how they make thier skis, and what materials are used? Take some innitiative go straight to the source.
 
Relax a little, it's ok, it's just the internet and I know you are knowledgeable about ski products so don't give me your shit answer for a "basic question". All I'm trying to see is if these Surface riders can actually tell me something about their ski besides the two pages of "I love them because of their image" bullshit. Is it really that hard to answer that?
 
Not really, and Im rather relaxed. Most poeple on NS havent ridden surfaces, and practically none are involved with the company. PM powfoka, he may know. I do know, that they use sandwicth construction, and they are pretty stiff. steevner also rode some watchlifes, and he says they wetre super fun, and the edge hold was great.

Overall, from what I have compiled, they are a fun to ride, light weight, poppy, quick ski.
 
If you're into the techy ski construction jargon, go to the Surface site to get all the specs.

They are made from a lightweight wood.

They are wrapped in fiber glass.

They have some carbon in there.

They have rockwell edges.

They have sintered bases. No die cuts.

They have sidewalls. No capping.

The flex is great for me. I love the shape. They turn well. Most kids don't notice that because they ski 100% in the park and don't know how to properly turn their skis. But I skied a lot of other companies skis on the Horstman Glacier this summer. One thing I realized is the Watch Life can actually turn well and hold a solid carve. They are amazingly light for how durable they are. I haven't lost the "pop" in my skis after riding them and abusing them 130+ days so far this year.

The factory they have been using is a great factory with a huge range of capabilities. They are definitely capable of making a quality product. Surface is happy to have skis there and are confident in the quality of their product.

What else do you want to know?? I feel like this is a press release. Your "what makes them good" question has already been answered numerous times.

I like them for all those reasons. I hope that helps.

coming from my opinion as a ski tech having tuned and repaired thousands of skis my surfaces have really thick sintered bases super durable and fast the rockwelll 48 edges are the toughest in any ski you can buy ..my watch lifes dont have a single crack! the wood they use and the fiberglass wrap has held up better than any ski i have ever owned they still ski on day 120 just like they did on day 1!

the topsheets on the live life are extremely durable i have no chips whatsoever where topsheet meets sidewall comes from factory slightly rounded leaving nothing for an opposing edge skier or snowboarder to catch on and chip! the binding mat creates totally solid mount and really quick energy transfer underfoot! both skis as mentioned above turn really well they are fun to ski on groomers and lay some turns compared to a traditional park or allmountain ski that doesent actually ski very well!

I've heard these crazy rumors from a very unreliable source that a rockered ski is in the works at surface.

Surface is an awesome company, it's refreshing to see a company like surface, a company based around freedom of style being able to do what you want. I get the same type of feel about surface as I get for joystick
 
that's how I feel. I couldn't give a shit about image, or whatnot. I don't give a shit about being artsy. I just want good skis.

To tell you the truth, I can't fucking stand people who wear girl pants, or tight pants, or whatever. fucking annoys the shit out of me.

But I bought surfaces.

I don't know why. I don't know if I was trying to support an emerging company I had hopes in, or if I was fucked up at the time.

But I love them. Best damn skis I've ever had. Can't say why. I'm not a big fan of the whole emo image, but the people are nice enough (even tho they do wear fucking girl pants) and the skis are amazing.

So I bought some. Fuck all this hype, but in the end, they still make a good product.
 
whats their warranty policy? I want some, but i know ill break the fuck out of them within 100 days prolly.
