SURFACE SKIS GOOOD OR NOT

I am just wondering how good of a brand of ski is Surface, they are not the most exspensize ski so i was just curious how good of quality they are please help me out!!??
 
I'd give them a solid "meh"

Pros: fun, light, poppy

Cons: Not durable, bases do not absorb wax well
 
I have nine lifes and they are super light and poppy, but not all that durable. They are also cheaper than the average park ski though.
 
It all depends on which ski you get. They've had plenty of problems with there park skis.

Haven't heard anything about their pow skis. My One Lifes have held up for the past two seasons, besides the bases.
 
I have seen skis that had the binding mat in the wrong place, it looked like they laid up the ski backwards. For some reason they managed to lay up the other ski in the pair correctly.

I have seen a skis that had one of the sidewalls plained, they other sidewall on the ski was vertical, looked like it had been cut with a band saw and then not finished at all.

There do seem to be people who are very happy with the skis though. I guess it comes down to if you get a well made pair or not. Hard to say if you will.
 
2 seasons on them, few topsheet chips. Smashed in a tail edge, epoxyed that up. Soft bases. Still have all of their life and stiffness left on them
 
this. If a ski still has its edges in after 2 years with 60+ days on rails THEN you should be happy. I haven't heard of this happening much with surface, but i've never owned a pair so don't take my word
 
My friend snapped a pair and now he keeps ripping the bindings out of the new pair. Could be shitty mount i guess.
 
I watched my friend snap both skis simultaneously. One of his skis delaminated on the second day of the season. Surface owned up to it and warrantied the skis, but I would not risk my money on a pair.
 
surface parks skis aren't durable i've broken the 9 lifes after 4 weeks they sent me the 2010-2011 no times after about 4 days and then the no times broke after two days and a hela-coil.come to find out that particular year and model the mounting insert of the ski was placed wrong when built so your binding screws into just the wood core..now im stuck ski-less until they send me next years ski. they are fun if your not hucking really hard, as for the pow skis i hear they are sick as balls, havent heard any problems on that side of the spectrum, company is hella cool good about warranties. just kinda my view of shit
 
My friend broke his No times, got them warrantied for Double times. Brok those and got them warrantied for New lifes.
 
i have the newlifes and could not be happier.
it seems that the park skis break all the time but the pow skis hold up. the best part imo of the newlifes is that the bases are literally rock hard. they don't hold wax that well, but i have never hit so many rocks on a pair of skis and come away clean of any damage. the only thing that was able to take away any base was an exposed piece of angle iron that was literally razor sharp steel. besides that no amount of rocks could damage those sticks. it's nice to get into a line that turns out to be all jagged rocks with a thin covering of snow and literally walk out stepping on the rocks with your skis and check them out later to find that there is no sign of damage.
i can't really speak for their park skis, i have seen the sidewalls and edges do some crazy things on relatively new skis
 
Thanks for all the info guys i would be looking to get a park ski sooooo im guessing they wont hold up that well because i compete and i will have at least 50 days on rails more like 70
 
From what I've heard, Next years No Times and Double times have been revamped to be beefier and more durable.

Can't say anything until then though.
 
i have not. but i would image it would just depend on if its the same base material.
I have last years with the all red base (pictured below) not sure if the same base is used for all of surfaces skis.

No surface ski will hold wax due to their extruded base. Sintered bases hold wax, just so you all know
 
Of aggressive park skiing? Good luck. I haven't had a ski that has lasted over 60 days since I was 14. Don't want to sound like a dick or anything, but skis lose life in less than a season if you ski hard enough . If it's casual skiing, you should be fine though. And everything I've just said might be exaggerated a bit . none the less, you'll notice wear and tear after awhile
 
I've gotten easily 65+ days on my 2nd pair of doubletimes skiing park excessively and agressively. In my opinion, Surface is good.
 
Thanks mate. I do have difficulty reading you know. What I was getting at (and now someone has already mentioned) was which skis had Afeld had problems with specifically? My New Lifes don't hold wax for shit, I was wondering if was just my skis, or just New Lifes or the whole Surface line up. So after reading this thread I have learnt two things:
1) Surface skis do not absorb wax very well due to their extruded bases.
2) You are a twat.
 
yeah i've seen 2 pairs of their park ski's snap in front of my eyes this year so i'd say shy away...

on the other hand i was honestly amazed that my alpha 1's came out with only 6 small edgecracks this season after no joke 100+ days of consecutive rail/park riding. shits crazy..
 
So I just got some no times in the mail today and put them together and saw that they had very minimal early rise in the tip, but the tail had a huge amount. When I compress the skis together the early rise begins almost behind where the binding would be and there is a solid inch gap between the skis towards the end of the tail. Is this normal or is it just this pair of skis I got? Someone with No Times please let me know!
 
I emailed them but I figured I would ask newschoolers for the quick response because I didn't know if it was normal or not haha. I can post pics
 
there pow sticks are pretty good, i think it would be nicer if there bases hheld wax better though, there park skis are alright its kinda hit or miss with them.

despite that they are very fun and playful, and light. the double times seem to be more durable than the no times but they are adding some beef to the core for next years park ski so they might not be as buttery but will hold up better.

i have about 80 or so days on them this season. They've been awesome except for when i jumped straight onto a rock and compressed the edge. Thats my fault though. Edge eventually blew out but they still work fine. Slowest bases ever though. other than that a ripping ski
