Surface Noise.

Yup. Surface bought out Anthony a few years ago. Not sure if it was before or after Ant started skiing for Surface.

Yup. He created it as a side project when he was still skiing. I presume you know he was a founding member of Armada skis as well?

just skiied my 179 one lifes for the first time and im very impressed. never really got to ski any new deep powder, but like 5 inches and a little bit of week old deepish powder and tons of choppy conditions, plus another half day in the park.

the 179's charge through chopped stuff pretty damn hard for a 179, i really like how you can kinda lean back over a rough section and plow through it and have the stability on the tails to lean on. skiing centered on the ski's super easy in both chopped and the little powder i got to ski. the ski never feels like it wants to sink. im not really sure whats up with the sidecut, its a pretty straight ski, and it really rips anything at speed, groomers, powder, rough stuff, etc.. its super good for making big long fast arch's, never really seems like the tip or tail make contact on hardpack, but it doesnt seem to matter, the ski still feels super stable, and grips up very well.

probably the thing i like most about this ski is how easy it is to kind a pivot the ski at any speed, you can be making a big fast arch, then pivot the ski and make snowboard like tight turns/slashes without dumping much speed, its a really cool feeling, makes the ski very maneuverable at any speed.

so basically the ski can make big arching stable turns like a straighter chargey ski, and slash/surfer turn, and maneuver like a big sidecut carvey ski. made it great for charging into stuff with speed then slashing and dumping speed to make tighter turns.

i was also extremely impressed with them in the park, they feel so natural on rails, pop super well, the rocker keeps the tips out of the way, and you can do huge presses. feel good on jumps too, they honestly feel as stable as a normal park ski on landings, even if you land backseat the tails wont give out. you can get almost just as techy as you can with normal park skis, but you also get that surfey feel you get with big rocker skis like hellbents in the park, where you wanna ski everything differently. and these have crazy pop, everywhere, you can pop huge off everything, you can tail butter for miles and pop out of it, its pretty sweet.

only thing i wasnt sure about was that the skis felt kinda hookey, like the ski will hook and not want to carve sometimes, feels like its right at the contact point where the camber turns to rocker. i feel like this ski would be even better with less camber underfoot or just being flat. that being said it went away after i took a gummy stone to it my second day/ got more used to the ski.

i dont know why more companies dont make big rockered skis, they ski so much better, i dont care about that BS how big rocker plows through the snow and slows you down, and you need just a slight amount of rocker to keep the tips out and have more edge contact. if any ski could have too much rocker, it would be these, and they dont, i never had a problem keeping up speed, if i wanted to have max edge contact id buy a normal camber ski, when i buy a rockered ski, i want it to ski like a rockered ski.

i had the definition of a "proper powder ski" and demoed another (bacons and opus's) and they arent fun, they ski like cambered skis, dont have the pivoty maneuverability of a big rocker ski, yet still cant charge groomers/chopped/powder, or carve as well as the one lifes. i dont think there is one area that the bacons or opus's outperform, and they definitely arent more fun in any way. really makes me want to try out the new lifes and labs..

so thats my long ass review!

my one lifes are so fun! hahah

Im happy to see this thread. I am having trouble deciding between the one life and new life. Im 6'3 and about 190lbs. I wanted to get a powder ski, and its obviously very difficult having fun in powder with 181cm Ar7's. Any feedback or opinion would be great.Thanks.

I'm 6'4" and about 265lbs. I've been skiing on 189 live life 2's (same as the one life's) and they were fun everywhere. That said. I just sold them to my brother and ordered 194 New Life's. I always wanted something bigger and loved Hellbents, but wanted something stiffer. I think these are going to do the trick.

hey guys, just got a sick deal on some '11 179cm one lives im 181cm tall do you think they will be too small? I live on the EC skiing trees and pow so I wanted them to be maneuverable

Yeah I new that. Frick I wish we got to see more of him. Super chill guy with a nice riding style. Maybe we'll see him pop up in some Nimbus stuff again; I'd like that forsure.

Is Banks going to be filming another season of Adventures in Transition? Some of the most upbeat and best vibes series out there in my opinion.

YO YO!

Happy New Year! Sorry for not awarding a winner last Friday. Was out of town for the Holidays. We would like to award JJDSTEEZE this week for the random winner. Hit us up with your address and we will get you a care package out in the mail...!!

and while i'm here, one tip of my '12 double times is rapidly exploding, i have it riveted, glued, and epoxied, but being the animal that i am, the core is still separating from the base and topsheet farther and farther towards the waist.

i got them during a summer deal for a dirt cheap price (which i was blown away by and appreciate more than i can say) but now i'm wondering what the best way is to convince you guys to give me a deal on a new pair? any year or graphic double times are what i crave, and if our timing is correct i can purchase a ninjaclava at the same time.

for anyone who does not have a ninjaclava...

you now want one

can you guys remake the old surface is so artsy right now t-shirt? It might not fit with your image anymore but i loved that shirt and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I would literally buy 3 of them.

Surface: Why do you have symmetrical powder skis like the New Life, but not any symmetrical park skis? I would think that for a company as progressive as Surface, there would at least be one symmetrical park offering...

I wanna know why the blank isn't symmetrical. If it was made with urban skiers in mind, why isnt it symmetrical like the abang, punx, jib, etc. It boggles my mind. (Not hating. You guys are my favorite company out there, I just dont understand.

the reason it's made with urban in mind is because with urban your skis get trashed. the thing they're going for is cheap skis so you can replace them easily with little cost. they're the same ski as the no times, the only main difference is there is no graphic. (correct me if i'm wrong) i have the blanks and i love them, they're great skis however, i got 4 edge cracks within a week of riding them. surface is this normal? i do hit tons of rails, and nonhte cause the only thing i notice is when i'm waxing the edge is coming a bit up so it makes an ugly noise when it connects with the iron haha.

File your edges. It won't catch on rails and it helps some with edge cracks. It's totally normal if you slam rails a lot. Metal on metal. Somethings got to give bro.

I bought the new 2013 no times early december and skied them SIX times in ontario where the biggest jump you'll find is a 30 footer. After one tail heavy landing my tail on one of the no times snapped. I emailed the warranty guys at surface and not only did they take a few days to reply they said no that they will not warranty the skis. I'm tired of people beating up surface because of their durability and I'm tired of other kids say "skis break don't complain about the company". Right now i'm pissed as hell at the company and I WILL begin to post bad reviews about the company because yes skis break but they should not BREAK after six days. With no heavy riding, and not to mention while I'm skiing on vacation with my family, forcing me to rent skis (more money spent). it was off a 20 foot jump if you really wanted to know. I honestly can't believe you won't warranty these skis for me, i find it mind blowing. now I have to wait another couple weeks to get skis shipped and mounted, not to mention having to shed out another 500 dollars, I'm really not impressed with you guys, all i want to do is ski, not deal with all the bs.

Have you all seen problems with sidewall durability on the 2012 live life's? My skis only have about 12 days on them and they have blown out, and while it was probably an impact issue I am just asking for suggestions on how to fix it. Flying back from slc now so I wish I found this thread a few days sooner

Just shipped 4 pair of Surfaces out to Utah for a ski trip in a week! Pretty Well Stoked

Hey - we have had zero issues with sidewall durability with the Live Life. Its our best selling ski and we have very few warranty issues on that model. My advice would be to drop them by a good ski shop and see if they have any repair ideas.

Or, you can always send some photos to skyler@freeskibrands.com and have him take a look. Worst case scenario, we have what we call a "crash replacement" program where we can sell you another pair of skis for insanely cheap depending on what you and Skyler work out.

HAHA! Awesome.. I haven't thought of that shirt forever. It was hilarious. We are coming up on our 10 year anniversary... perhaps we will do some throwback stuff!!!

Thanks man!
