Surf boards

next year im moving to costa rica and need a surf board. i know nothing about them and have only done it maybe twice in my life. im 185 pounds and 6'1" , does anyone know some decent beginner boards that i should check out. thank you for your help.
 
to start of you don't want a short trick board, it'll be harder to learn. get like a 7' 3" one or around there or bigger, they're more stable and easier to learn with
 
if your just starting out than take some lessons and start out on a longboard and then if you want to, move to a short board
 
you would probably be fine with a 7' 6" just to screw around on. But if you are looking for a longer board look at WRV, they have a really good selection.
 
at first hire a soft board you could buy one but i wouldnt reccomend it
after that progress onto a "mini mal" board basically a big fat round board between 7 and eight feet
NSP make alot of beginner boards however i would recommend hiring a soft board and then moving onto a mini mal or longboard
 
if you plan on sticking with it, then might as well get a shortboard. if you're just looking to have some easy waves then get a fun shape. if you're gonna get a shortboard get like a 6'3", 19 wide, 2 1/2 thick.
 
whatever you do, dont buy a soft top beginner board, or a plastic board like a bic. I would recommend renting a beginner board the first few times to see if you like it. After that its easier to buy a long board - try to stay away from something thats an epoxy board- but if you want to be shortboarding in the long run, its harder to adapt to that after longboarding for a while. If you are willing to stick with it, and it will take you a while to get the hang of it, buy a short board when you are ready to move on from a soft top rental. Dont get something too long, but then again dont get something too short since you are 6'1" (i think? i dont remember now that im typing this). Good luck, and have fun. Dont get discouraged if it takes you a while to catch on
 
Rent a board first and see if you can actually do it. Or just buy a long board right away. Trying to learn on a short board willl be way worse than you expect
 
I'm 6'2 and 200. I started out on a 7'6 BLUE funboard. Moved to a local shaper for my second board and that's a 6'7 x 20.00 x 2.25 and decent rocker for bigger waves. I recently picked up a WRV Nugget Quad that rips small waves. thats a 6'3 x 21x2.75 and flat rocker
