whether or not you agree with the war in iraq (which as a matter of fact i do not fully agree with) we still all need to support the guys over there, they are fighting and dying for their jobs and country. all i am saying is there isnt much we can do to stop this so at least support our troops

word. support the troops, they are true heroes. It's not like they like war, but its something they gotta do. I support our president and the troops overseas. They are out there putting thier lives on the line for our country the least you can do is show some respect for that. War is a sad reality that has to be faced every once and a while, we sacrifice some lives now so that in the future many lives will be saved. If sadam isnt stopped now, who knows what he will do with those dirty weapons of his, he might already have the capibility of processing nukes. He has to be taken out of power now. period.

they're fighting because it's their job. do i believe in the so-called reasons for this war? no. but i will support them (i.e. the soldiers) in their fight to come home. thats all they want is to come home. im lucky enough to be able to email my brother every day and it scares the shit out of me to see and read what he's been going through over there.

Sorry that some of you may have a relative in the war currently, but that is not our fault. They joined on their own will. When you join the MIlitary, you are basically saying that you will do whatever the government tells you to. Alot of us do not want to do that currently, including me. If there was something really worth fightingfor I guarantee just about every NS'er would. But sorry, this "War" is not helping me a single bit or doing any good for me in my life other than killing off a bunch of people that I may have met someday.

The only way I can support the troops is if they are right here in the US. If they are out of the country on some stupid foreign policy, they are on their own.....

Nobody supports the troops. Why? Because nobody gives a shit about anything. Now, if a gay man or a black woman was denied a seat on a bus one day, there would be a million-man march in the middle of Washington DC within a week. How is it that 65% of my country is vehemently opposed to this war, yet no more than 1000 people have EVER gathered in one place to demonstrate against it? How do we have so many hippy and prog. kids out there who are all too damn lazy to go EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS. Care packages are nice, but I'd rather you write a letter to your representative and tell him not to be a spineless wanker. The legislative branch has been voluntarily castrated. Anything they pass is being shot down in the executive arbitrarily, if it goes against the agenda. Checks and balances? What's that?!

If you want to help -at all-, maybe consider doing something that will actually make a difference. Our country has abandoned us. Supporting your troops isn't praying at night and sending them beef jerky. Supporting your troops is not sending them to die in an illegal war that is ruining our economy and currency power. One black man gets gunned down by cops? There's bound to be 10,000 angry 'activists' led by a major figure in the street the next DAY. Well, news flash. FOUR THOUSAND of your brothers and sisters are DEAD. We're here because we signed a contract and gave our word that we'd follow the orders of command. Whether we agree or not has no bearing. Understand all this before you shoot your mouth off, and realize that the only ones who can question the orders of our commanders are YOU. In the military, that's called insubordination. We rely on YOU to stand up for US. It's all very easy to blame the guys who are following the orders, but in the end, the blood is on YOUR hands. We worry about not getting shot, you worry about why we're being shot at.

The armed forces are a tool. But when it comes down to it, they are people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their fellow countryman. Even if you dont agree with the war, these people are dying for *you*. If you dont respect and acknowledge that sacrifice you are an animal. Protest the war and the administration all you want. NEVER EVER PROTEST AN INDIVIDUAL'S ROLE IN WAR.
 
How about supporting our troops by keeping them safe and close to their loving families? I hear they can do that pretty well at home...
 
Dude, the Congress knows like 75% of the people in the US are against the war. Protesting doesnt do shit anymore. Everyone has full time jobs, we dont have time to protest something everyday. Why should people keep protesting if it has no effect at all? You think Pres. Bush is all of a sudden going to listen to protestors? heh, I wish he would, but hes not going to. He wont even listen to the anti-war people in his legislature. There are people very high up in the government who have more power than any protest could ever make who are trying to stop the war, but Bush wont listen. ......
 
Thousands came out to protest against Imus for saying 'Nappy headed hoes' on his radio show. Tons of celebrities chastized him, tons of people cursed his name, thousands protested, and in the end, his ass was canned. Obviously people have the time and the passion to come out and show their unhappiness (even if it's expressing their disgust with someone exercising their rights to free speech and press). If 10,000 people marched on the White House I'm sure it would make a few people say 'whoa'. But, everyone has an excuse, and a fulltime job is just another. It's life and death, and if anyone really cared, I don't think missing a day of work should scare them away.
 


i was a soldier with the 226 airbourne (australian) and went to afganistan and iraq before i broke my leg and was discharged.

when i was in it wasnt about politics or why we were there it was about the mission at hand, my job was as a ass end charlie or point man so it was my job to watch my chalks backs and thats what i did, i protect the guy next to me he does the same for me and we make our objective its all about the man next to you not what the man with the pen thinks about you.

most of the ordinary grunts were from low income familys or from dead towns where there is no work so what do they do to support thier family? join the army, its better then working in a factory and bringing home minimum wage.

the other reason alot of the soldiers joined up was for honour, these are the srgts and the people from spec platoons, many of these guys dads fought in the gulf grandads fought in world war two and they wanted to feel the honour that their for fathers did, thats why i joined at least and because i wanted to see far off place no one else sees.

none of these guys gives a flying fuck about politics most of the U.S grunts never went to college or are smart enough to figure politics out. most just dont care, we were there to do our jobs thats it.

when your selling shirts at whatever place you work at do you care that the company makes thier shit at sweat shops....no not usually. its the same thing. i didnt give a shit what is going on.

yes alot of the U.S foot soldiers are trigger happy ass-hats however the majority are not there to kill people, if someone has fired on my squad yes i will fuck thier shit up but no one is there looking for a fight if we come rolling through a town and people see us they can drop thier weapons and walk around like regular people and we would not know who they are but they fire on peoples best mates and you defend your friends to the end, but you seem like the kind of dude who would run away if your best mate was jumped.
 
never. it will become another korea. we have fucked it up enough and there is to much riding on it (oil wise) to do anything but dig in for the long haul. this is australian millitary however, we will be there for the rest of all of our lives. the U.S however it depends on if who ever gets into power next is serious about iran. and if so i garente that alot of soliders will have 2 months rest then hop another plane over to iran

That's totally not true! I have personally been on a peace march that had many thousands of people. I do agree with you though, people need to write their representatives and excercise their right to be heard.
 
aussie skier you got some insightful shit to say but i got a question man, if most of the people were serving in Iraq from the US were using the military as a last resort job or and didnt have any education. (thats what it sounded like) i ask myself why are the ignorant people dealing with important global issues. If they simply dont care and are just serving their time i can see why nothing has been accomplished since vietnam. So why is it that mostly these people are attracted to military, the people who rely on faith and honor rather than self beleif. I can understand some idiot working at walmart but i cant understand some imbiscile working with a m4a1 in his arms supposedly supporting a creation of infrastructure in iraq
 
i do agree that those people should not be i the army, i mean they arnt the people i want covering my ass.

and that is why in coalition no other country really wants to fight with alot of american platoons.

the australian army are small but well trained and hard as nails our genral infantry go through what your marines and commandos do for training plus more we do classes and many have degrees through the army.

i dont agree with the american armys policy of thousands of untrained troops because they will let many people in who are idiots.

the question of why they are attracted to the army is beacuse they make a good wage and get food and benifits.

the many fine soldiers that are serving with honor and valour should all be given medals for putting up with thier idiot comrades who make them look like shit. but these good soldiers join up because they want to prove themselves to themselves and their friends.

the question that they are idnorant i dont think comes into it. if you are well trained at a specific task and have a commen scence of decancy everything would be perfect its just unfortanate that alot do not.

i do hope i have not offended the people that have posted above. let me say clearly i do like alot of american soldiers and my hearts go out to them as i can not be over there still. the fact you are on a skiing site hints you are a from a failey upper middle class. and your brothers and friends are the type of soldier i love. fighting with honour and proving to the world the U.S army is a awesome thing and i think if more media was placed on these soldiers the image of iraq would not be of stupid ass G.Is kicking naked hooded POW's around a jail but one of soldiers treating their enemy like they should dissarm them any way possible but then rebuilding the school that was shot up giving kids choclate on the side of the road. i do not know what it is like letting your loved one go off to war with the fear of them dying i probally could not do it. i left and knew that if i did my shit right i can go home and see my family. so i would like to say to the people who posted above me that had friends and family in the way. you are brave as hell and if people tell you that they a fighting a stupid war tell them all they are fighting for is to help them and their fellow soldier go back and see their family.

if i did support the war, i don't need a bumper sticker on my fucking car and i don't need a veiled sentence to show my support. i'd just say it.

no weapons of mass destructions means no valid reason to fight.

and it was the first time Australia was a millitary agressor that means we started the war. we were always aske to come to the aid of another contry.

however this is a australian point of view. and a australian service mens point of view. it may be different we live and die using the ANZAC code (if you dont know what it is dont bother asking its to long and most of you probally wouldnt understand) and this war was not started by this code. again australian soldier fight for the soldier next to us not for the cause.
 
seriously, how can you support the troops and not support the war? our soldiers in iraq and everywhere else see us protesting and saying all this pussy democrat shit like its not my fault, i voted for kerry blah blah blah. our soldiers begin to think we dont give a rats ass, and question what they are fighting for...they wonder why they are standing next to a brother and watching him die when the people back home dont give a shit. to support our troops is to support the whole cause. they have to know what they are doing is right. the war on terrorism did not start post 9-11, it has been going on for a long time. we are just too ignorant to realize this shit. we cannot leave iraq, thats like sending them a surrender date. what does that show our troops? sorry we're done, big mistake, you can go home now, sorry about your brothers...
 
cant be stupid, the american soldiers are fucking shit, theve almost shot more british troops than the iraqis have. Get them out and just send in the SAS, thell do the job the quickest and the most efficiently, there is no other force that is anywhere near them in terms of talent
 
thats what i am getting at here what we need to do is another mogadishu send in just rangers, delta, marines, seals from the U.S.

airbourne, SAS, and the 321st desert warfare regement from aus

SAS, parachuters, commandos, from the UK

now thats a few thousand crack troops the best. these people strike very quickley and hard with little collateral.

now pair this with the USS enteprise, tank divisions. and your set.

did you know that the Australian elite infantry units mentioned up there have 10 times the kill count as the U.S G.I's. with as little as 100 collateral kills. proves how useful these troops are.

we bring these in clear it up, use them in defensive positions after the sweep and clear. then bring in enginears to clean up, and re build.

however im not the dude with the pen i used to be the guy with the gun we have no say what so ever.
