I DO know what I am saying. I DO know our strategy, I DO know killing kids by accident is bad. I also know that they are killing them on PURPOSE. If they dont like the mayor of a town, for any reason, religion, ethics, anything, they will kill his son while he's out playing football, kill his entire family, they will do it in the worst way possible.

How do I know? Probably because I've SEEN it happen.

EVERY FAMILY of every person who is detained unjustly or killed is compensated. If an american tank backs into a house, if a hummer hits a car, they get money. How do I know? Again. I live here. This isn't propaganda.

And for the record, no, I didn't support the 'war'. It's a disgrace and a true shame, but the fact remains; We are not leaving until things have stabilized. If we just up and left now, a million sunni would be dead in a week. We're in too deep to just yank out, and now it is in the iraqis hands to decide if they want to end the fighting, and actually get rid of us. Their fate is in their hands...

handing some guy some money after scratching his 1983 opel is differnet from how you can take care of a family after there house is destroyed and and a family member is killed. nowhere in this thread did i say this military is comparable or worse then the fanatics. so saying they are worse is a moot point, nobody sane would try and argue the us military is worse then a group who is willing to decapitate a chile in the name of allah.

I don't think anything the US has done in iraq can begin to match the cruelty of the iraqis themselves. Maybe if fox news broadcasted the images of iraqi police with holes power-drilled into their heads while they were still alive, people would have more of an objective opinion.

Hell, I'm more than open to policy suggestions. But now, its bedtime.
 
it not our job to destroy all the religions in the world that bother us, there are christians in america who are just as dangerous as the fanatic muslims. in africa there is genocide going on, in south america in the rainforest some of the crazy un civilized tribes COOK CHILDREN! there is bad shit everywhere. we are not going to make the world a better place by using our military.
 
we arnt going after the whole religion, just a very small percentage that are willing and able to kill for their religion and in doing so forfit their right to live and should be terminated
 
I agree with your last statement mostly, but unfortunately we are already stuck in a mess. Yes, the original reason was bullshit and we shouldn't have gone in the first place, but no amount of complaining how the war is wrong is going to make the situation in Iraq any better. The ordinary soldiers didn't say "Let's cook up some intelligence about WMD's and start a war in Iraq so we can get some oil. And oh yeah, fuck having a plan to get out." They are being wrongly used by some people who are possibly more dangerous than anyone else you listed, and so we have no reason not to support our troops being in the shitty situation they are in.
 
You're definitely right about the Shia-Sunni killing more civilians, but the US is definitely not sitting back trying to stop it, they are looking and waiting for a side to choose like they have in every single Middle Eastern conflict (Iran, Israel, Kuwait...the list goes on.)

Oh and if he was taking info from Fox news, it would be the direct opposite of what he's saying.
 
Come on, that's not true. Extremists are not born my friend, they are raised. Raised by a lifestyle of killing and surrounded by people being killed. We as a nation need to comprehend that invading countries only provokes more and more violence which is what will bestowe upon us if we keep diplomatically interfering in religious wars.

On the other hand, something needs to be done about the killing. Thus we arrive at the problem of why we are still in Iraq and why the world hates us.

I think we should get out of Iraq, but our troops are there regardless. I know some very good people in the military who joined because it's something they believe in, and it's the best option for their future, like my Dad. He had no money for Grad school, and the military was his best option.

How can you hate on anyone for that? Especially when they die while doing their job?
 
I suppose its probably because this thread really took off once it was off topic, but I feel there is no good way to address everything that has come up here. Overall, I agree with Worst.NS.Member and Mitch about US involvement and our reasons for being in Iraq right now. The military does kill and destroy, but they also do a lot of good, such as diffusing situations, transporting aid and keeping the peace in volatile areas. Its my hope that every American soldier would fight for innocents, no matter what nationality and background they are. I think for a large majority, whether they know so or not, this trait is basic amongst everyone, and thus, I guess I have some trust in the army as a whole to dot he right thing when deployed.

However, I certainly take issue with who commands the deployment and the reasons for doing so initially.

Facts are, our nations army cant be everywhere and cant stop everything bad from happening in the world. Bad shit is always going to happen. You are always going to have friendly casualties when you have two million soldiers deployed in a nation in civil war. Children are always going to get caught in the crossfire. I think whats important is that we understand that that stuff happens accidentally, and we take care to minimize that as much as possible. Thats simply the best we can do. Sucks, I know, but thats what happens in wars. Innocent people die.

yes they do, its called financial aid. If they passed high school, they are probably eligible to get it. They especially help poor families and you have to fill out alot of paperwork to say how much your family makes. If you are to stupid or lazy to fill it out than I guess you deserve to risk your life to make money. If you didnt pass high school, well.....you aint gonna get far in life more than likely.
 
My dad is the Vice president of a non-profit financial aid organization; I understand what financial aid is. What you clearly don't understand is that educating kids on the availability is the first issue that needs to be dealt with and secondly, there isn't enough financial aid for every poor person to go to college. What you also don't realize is that some people CAN'T go to college to make a better life for themselves because they have families that rely on money that comes from them working instead. Taking 2 or 4 years off to go to school just isn't an option for some people.
 
Dude, most people in college dont even qualify for financial aid. Your best bet is a scholarship. Besides that fact, being a student is expensive. Its very hard to work and perform well in school at the same time, especially if you have to support yourself during that time. Face it, if you're poor, you are at a disadvantage when it comes to education, even if you are smarter than half the people in universities. And again, the army offers paid tuition, so for some people, doing some service is paying for their schooling. Our military is not composed of mindless stupid drones.
 
The billion dollar a day budget we spend on the war in Iraq is more than enough to pay for everyone in the US to go to college and get like a doctorate degree.

the troops do not get to choose where they go and what the fight for, they just follow their orders, they deserve all the support we can give them.
