Superunknown XVIII official discussion thread

I've never really watched any of these videos because I'm confused on what this comp actually is. The competition never seems to get too much light apart from the enders (some of those clips go so hard). Can someone explain the jist of the comp so I can follow along with it.
 
Personally not a fan of vertical iPhone video laid over pirated Rick and Morty clips but idk, that’s just my 2 cents.

There’s so many better ways to use vertical video than to just slap it over Rick and Morty. just saying
 
The overall vibe of Nick Westland edit - ft. Viagra Boys soundtrack - that really inspired me to want to go skiing. Been waiting for an edit with that song. This provides. Guy goes hard.

Anyone can submit a video entry. Level 1 picks their 9(?) favorite to go to the final. then the general public gets to vote on the semi-finalist they like most to join the other 9. Level 1 then takes the 10 skiers to a mountain for a week long park shoot, and whoever leaves the best impression by the end of the week walks home with 2.5-5k.

this year, they are taking all the finalists who can come from last year, Bc they missed out big time due to covid. Then they are filling the remaining slots with entries from this year.

Vertical phone videos are not my favorite because I watch on a big screen.

Nick has some serious skills for sure! Audio muted due to copyright. That's why I stopped using music a long time ago.

Rarely I will make an edit with music.
 
Feel like a lot of these vids should be labeled as "here are all my vids from insta compiled into a 1:30 edit".

Gone are the days going into watching superuknown vids without a clue of whats going to be dropped.

shes an awesome skier, saw her throw a clean front 2 out of a 40 ft downrail two years ago right in front of me, hyped to see her get some recognition

idk man this crop of skiers is more unknown to me than previous years. maybe I'm out of touch?

many professional skiers such as tim walsh, keegan kooktown, luke stan madden, and michael graner all won superunknown. it's a cornerstone of the scene!

Chris Bechtold got my reminiscing on the old superunknowns with the street shots, also big style man. Down-flat closeout Fr6 was absolutely insane...

Finley Good is nuts, like how? She's got a huge future in skiing, only 12 and already better than most skiers.

I really dig lots of tricks in Christian Gander's, more just the overall approach to skiing. Some might say it's too swappy for them, but hey, he does it right.
 
there were a lot of tricks on tubes and smaller features. I love tubes and smaller features as much as the next guy (if not more) but I don't understand how it's relevant for Superunknown? I would have thought that there would be a lot more street and backcountry clips. Personally I thought Chris Bechtold had the best street clips and dicky thomas had the best big jump clips.

keep in mind these are just semi finalists, the finalist edits are usually a step above the others with a lot more street clips etc
 
I forgot his first name but that Kennedy kids park stuff wasn’t crazy but I loved his street and bc stuff
 
I don't think I've watched them all but he'd be the best at the park shoot I think

I never really understood people who would put tube clips in a superunknown. Cal Carson posted a video of all his superunknowns once that all got denied, and I got a shit ton of downvotes cause I said that there was way too much pvcs in his edit and that's why thet didn't chose him lol
