Superunknown VIII Finalist Released one by one

building the lip on the outside takes away the integrity of the feature. It may be the illest 6 kink ever, but if the lip is on the outside, it's just not as legit, or for that matter, legit it all (in some people's eyes). Its like Barry Bond's homerun record: does it count? yes. Is it legit? Not really. Same goes for unshoveled stairs, and a few other things.

look at the post on top of your last post. It's not about being different but if you're gonna go and hit some urbans at least do it completely so that the shots are really much more gnarly than in a park.

does homeplate only have one side? no. neither do rails. hit from whatever side you want.
rails are rails. skiing is skiing. all this nitpicky shit ruins the game.

jumps are generally built on the outside of the stairs so that you can slide whichever way you are more comfortable, rather than putting it on the inside and sliding it lip or unnat, which is lame. if you are putting it on the outside to lip 2 onto it, more power to you.

but shovel the fucking stairs.

Just finished watching Christopher's edit. Was really good except a lot of park rails and the urban lips couldn't be bigger. That 2 on was sick, but look at that lip it's huge!

The dubs were grabbed and pretty clean along with that switch 10. I'm pretty sure this guy won the First Drop/RMU sponsor me contest. All in all good edit, great skier, but won't be winning.

uh oh, the rulez of urban have ben badly abused again, booters on, do those rails even have steps? what side is that? the dude has good style but not like brogan good though. I'm still waiting to see some creativity(apart from that flip up)in this competition. I think that's what's gonna set people apart.

all of his tricks were super clean and stomped. I don't mean to hate, but am I the only one who thinks it is weird to see flat boxes in a superunknown edit?

You obviously don't understand urban. It look 100x more legit if the lip is on the inside, it's just an unwritten rule no lips on outside it looks well straight up gay.

that was swell and all, but you can't seriously expect to win superunknown without spinning a single trick to the right in the entire edit...

This kid slides left foot forward. He couldn't have done that trick if he had forced himself to hit it unnatural. if you set limitations to yourself based on what some people think looks "straight up gay" you're never going to get anywhere.
so many skiers are so close minded.
and i don't understand urban, really? okay kid.

Clearly you don't because you don't know some basic etiquette. If he slides left foot forward then go to a different rail to do that trick. Look at any professional ski or snowboard video. Do they ever put the rail on the outside? The answer it no go watch a few films and get learned.

You can build the jump on which ever side of the rail you please, but for it to be in a superunknown edit its kinda bad form. The kid is 13 and kills it but when your filming for a high level competition I personally think that he should have build it in the middle and lip slide it. But don't get me wrong the kid is on santas sleigh.

Hahaha, there are so many things wrong with what you just said that i'm not even going to take the time to respond.

not really. you said they put the rail on the outside. ive never seen anyone move an urban rail in a movie before.

I was mostly bothered by the sheer size of the lips Chris Hjalmeby built onto his rails. It just made all of his tricks look really weak. Handrail tricks are no longer challenging if the lip is only inches below the rail.

I dont think etiqutte means what you think it means...this isnt about respect or such, its about the pros doin somethin and no one wanting to do something different. Hitting it from the outside would even make it more difficult as your momentum would carry you into the stairs if you overshot.

lol fine, i'll bite.
first off, to me urban is about taking everyday features that you see in the streets of the cities we live in and doing something cool and fun on them. it can be a ledge, it can be a rail, it can be a set of stairs, hell it could even be a trashcan. the possibilities are literally endless. it's not about being the next kid to do a stock trick on a handrail, its about taking a feature and making it hittable.
you said " If he slides left foot forward then go to a different rail." why the hell would he do that when he has a perfectly good handrail to do that trick on right there? because he has to do something different like put the lip on the other side? the logic behind that is straight stupid.. if he had left that feature would have won. tricks are tricks. arguing about lip placement? now thats retarted.
now i leave you with a nice video from my friend ryan paul. notice the rail at 2:25. thats a gnarly rail. ryan was having trouble with it, the rail was winning. so he jumped straight over that motherfucker. gotta do what you gotta do.

go watch a level 1 flick and see how rails they put the jump on the outside of the stairs. a decade ago it'd be fine but now it's not legit at all... and you'd know this if you actually hit urban before.

I thought chris killed it, finally a kid who was good at both rails AND jumps besides Torvinen.

But I went back and watched Torvinen's video and each time it gets better. Double tail grab cork 9, Shifty opposite tail off up rail, rodeo on, 540 switch up, flip up (first time I watched it it cut off and I didn't see him land it).

1. Austin Torvinen

2. Dane Ulsifer

So far....

will wesson in refresh. tail tap lipslide on that red rail. thats just off the top of my head. and why would you assume i've never hit urban before? because i have a broader outlook than you? your points are invalid on this website skiierman.

Yeah, but that lip was away from the rail set up for the purpose of tapping one side and going to the other rail, not just to hit the rail itself. Even if that counts that is 1 rail of all of Refresh where the lip was on the outside.

For 2:25 of your video the lip is still on the inside of the stairs... he wasn't even hitting the rail he was jumping over it.

Hmm, so if you set the lip up in a certain place for a certain trick its okay? so if he sets the lip up on the left so that he can front change, pretzel 2 the rail, its alright too right? you kids are so fucking ignorant.
and for 2:25.. he was hitting the rail.. it was a frustrating rail, so he said fuck it and hucked a huge back 3 over it. my point being he did something different to get a shot at that spot. learn to read.

can we all just agree that sliding on handrails is not real skiing? good. Now that that's settled lets move on to some real superunknowns who have skiing in their vid.

sorry dude. you are a fucking idiot. im not talking about this post in general but all your posts on the last page. if you want your urban to be legit, you shovel off the fucking stairs, and build non-mountainous lips on the inside of the rail. if its on the opposite way from which you slide, too fucking bad, you have three options. lipslide, hit it unnatural, or you walk away until you can do one of the two previous options.

you are just about the only person who feels the way you do. Your skiing ideologies are so unique and different. You are truly a visionary, thank you for opening my eyes.

way too big urban lips in that one, and yea its an unwritten rule that urban lips do not go outside of the staircase.

I would go with your stubborn more than their ignorant. Your probably defending the side jump so much because you yourself are too scared to hit a rail lip or unnaty.
