Uhhhhhh sorry for the confusion dude. This is from 2014.

He lost btw

Noooo duck lol. Thought he git back for this year. We'll fuvk. I know he lost. Brower won that year. One of the mist creative years in my mind. Reminds me of Geoff Lovelace too

I think level 1 needs to change this contest format

Having the final stage of the comp be a park shoot has clearly had a pervasive effect on the content of the entries, and materially misaligns the riders they are selecting ( park riders) from the content they are trying to produce (street/BC for their movies)

They should be selecting riders with heavy street/BC segments, and doing one urban trip with the street guys and one BC trip, make segments out of both and then selecting the winner out of that. They could do live coverage of the trips to make it feel more like "comps"

This comp format has gotten stale, they need something that better incentivizes the riders

they still picked magnus after the park shoot and he had an all street submission i believe

magnus is a pretty heavy park skier, still quite unfair to the BC riders and takes away from the creativity available in street segments

I would love to see what level 1's definition of "superunknown" is

This debate has come up every year and it's still stupid...

Please - enlighten me to these unknown riders who should be in this contest, oh wait, we've all heard of them too. The Internet has changed this contest without the rules ever changing, everyone is known by the time they're good enough to make it to the finals of this contest. Level 1 makes it pretty clear what the rules are, and so far no one who has made it to the finals or won the contest has broken them. So can everyone please stop bitching about how this contest isn't full of "unknown" skiers. It's really old.

plus this year's finalist are actually pretty much unknown...

Keegan has got to win in my opinion. Blew up this year, deep bag of tricks, unique style, and has an amazing rail and jump game.

Not one single SuperUnknown winner was a backcountry skier when they made their winning edit - even before the latest format when it was solely judged on your video. It's pretty known that Level 1 is looking for a certain type of skier with this comp - and since urban sessions can be really hit or miss at times and if you can do something on an urban rail you can do it on a park feature, having the finals makes the most sense logistically, financially, and creatively. Remember that the athletes have a TON of input into the features - they even help with the builds - so really the only people it hinders are the BC guys, but honestly if Level 1 wanted to deepen their BC pool, they'd have the contest formatted that way. History proves they're looking for other types of riders however.

do people complain about the lack of urban shots because of the principle, or do they really believe a skier like Zahner wouldn't be adequate?

I'm a fan of Mike Cappola's style for sure. Cool he made it to the finals.

I think that what TallT Dan said about urban and even superunknown is really true this year. I mean even just consider who entered the competition vs who people assumed would enter.

I know a few people who absolutely busted their balls off making an entry, going hard in the streets every day, stepping up to rails that I doubt many of the finalists would even hit. And I know they're not alone in this contest either.

I thought all of the finalists' styles were a lot better. I could see an argument for this being in the semis though

Fair but,

Dedication level: higher than any of the finalists.

Variety level: higher than any of the finalists.

You are still talking like you expect none of the finalists to have footy from outside the park this year. I know at least a third of them do and I'm confident in assuming the rest do as well.

Dedication gets you parts but style sells parts. Level 1 gotta sell em to get by unfortunately.

he doesn't give off that 'can stomp any trick first try' vibe that pros normally have. he just seems very unsteady on skis. almost like he doesn't know how to ski and is just really good at being on rails and in the air.

I fully realize these guys will have some urban to put somewhere, Keegan is a beast in the streets, but the part that made super unknown so exciting for me was the fact that super unknown IS the spot that your footy from outside the park goes.

Example:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ77QBAdDL0yqHDDVeiCCVz-W1--6IVaD

^This year of super unknown is incredibly sick. So much variety in every edit and far more stuff is filmed outside the park. Idk, I respect what your saying but to me this years contest just isn't very exciting.

If I could sum up my point in one sentence:

In this years finalists there are hardly ANY shots that I have never seen before, and I would prefer to see work put into a finalists entry.

Level 1 is consistently known for have a very diverse group of skiers. Currently the line-up ranges from from BC/Big Mountain guys like Bibby, Duncan, KC, Wiley, Rainville, and Tatum to Urban guys like Khai, LJ, Brower, Magnus, Laurant, Sandy, Berman, Sami, Shea and Wesson. But their "pure park" skiers are pretty lacking - they really only have Jonah and McRae. Sure there's plenty of crossover, but when you look at years past, they're team was really balanced through the 3 main disciplines of film skiing (if you can even say that).

I think the thing that everyone forgets is that while Level 1 is giving someone the opportunity of a lifetime (or even multiple people in some years), they mainly do this contest to help pull talent in. And that means that they pick a group of finalists based on what they're looking for. They have tons of urban riders, that's not really what they need, so they selected a group of skiers who mostly fit a certain style of riding that they're looking for.

I feel this, that was definitely the best Superunknown year. Edits were actually hype, the park itself looked pretty cool, and it's a good example of what the contest should be like. Now you can win with throwing together some random park clips collected from the past several seasons, and nobody will think much of lacking variety. It's extremely likely at this point that Kilbride will win it, as Level 1 has clearly lowered their standards since they lose members every season now

Really surprised I didn't see Sam or Quinn in the finals because they are both the types of dudes who are insanely fun to watch, moreso than the other finalist edits I watched.

I was hoping id see quinn in the finals. Dudes an unreal skier
