Superstition behind the number 187

i was reading tucker max the other night, and got to the chapter about how he ruptured his appendix. on the first page, he talks about how the nurse handed him a paper with the number 187 on it, and he basically freaks out. says that he's not a superstitious guy but that number really messed with him.
i searched google for like 10 minutes trying to find the connection here, but couldn't find anything. anyone here know what the big deal with 187 is?
 
this is just off the top of my head, but wasnt it the TWA flight number 187 that crashed a while back?
 
i always thought it meant officer down but i guess i just learned something today. OK, not gonna go to class now, ive done my learning for the day.

as we all know tucker max is retarded with a captial TARD, that could be the explaination.

187 actually a pretty rare number. Personally I really don't see it really at all. No number, ever, has given me any kind of trouble. How the fuck do numbers give you bad luck anyways?
 
If you ever take a flight and its 191 id be scurred. There has been 4 accidents each with fatalities and the flight number was 191. Most famous being Delta 191 back in 1979.
 
in high school we used to have a think called a 187 mod, where you write 187 in someones hood with a rusty nail and then put speed holes in the car. it basically meant your car was awesome and you could beat anyone in a race
