Superpipe Skiing appreciation thread.

It's not popular because it is super fucking gnarly and hard to be a good pipe skier, so lets send out some love for Pipe laps with the crew. I know all yall love blasting a softened-up right or left wall. Spring Pipe skiing is heaven on earth.

the skill floor of pipe gnarlier than the skill floor of street. Obviously street can be made as fucked as you want, same with backcountry, but even airing out of a 22 footer is sketchier than any handrail I’ve slid or chute I’ve dropped.

If i tried anything other than a 180 in a pipe i'd break my neck and i'll admit I prolly couldn't ski a pipe at all

I just got to go down the pipe mammoth has for the Grand Prix with my super detuned skis and holy shit that thing is gnarly. Didn’t air or anything, just slid around going halfway up the icy ass walls. Super intimidating on its own, not to mention it was windy as fuck the whole time they were trying to do the comp. Mad respect to everyone out there competing this weekend.

I like it before it gets soft but just starting to peal so it's not brick but not a sloosh fest. Also like sloosh pipe though.

Pipes popularity has a lot to do with them not existing. I mean they were getting less popular and expensive, and now that they dont exist theyre even less popular. I wish more places would have kept their 14 foot cutters rather than abandoning pipes all together. I was just starting to get into it when they dissappeared from my whole region, maybe my whole state. Idk sucks. Pipe is pretty fun. For someone who didnt ride a mtn that had one I really dig them and feel fairly comfortable but I wish I got to grow up with even occasional acess to one.

According to my employer, there are only 6 pipes left in the world. I was super impressed with PCMRs setup yesterday. Like 2-3 mini pipes and then the full 18ft is honestly great. 22's are way too intimidating

Nah that can't be. But yeah there aren't a lot. In CA Mammoth def builds a 22. I believe boreal does. CO snowmass and buttermilk have 22s. Do VR mtns in CO still build pipes? I think breck has 18 now.

Idk still a decent amount of 18s. Might only be 6-8 22 foot pipes in America though.

Defway more than 6 pipes. Though there were probably 100 in the world(total random number) but a lot at one point.

I want to build a small 2 hit pipe with the cat this spring. Maybe just gor a week and have an unofficial event

Yeah i was gonna say. It sounded like some marketing bullshit but hell yeah dude. Build something fun. I had a time on saturday ripping pipe again. It's been a minute.

Grew up skiing at one of the only places that has a 22 ft pipe in Canada (COP). Took me about 15 minutes to commit to dropping in the first time, and I'm still terrified of pipe haha. Getting to see Bowman, D'artois, and Mackay in the pipe is always insane, pipe skiers are built different.

I've only skied a full sized superpipe a few times. The farthest I made it was airing out of the pipe like 3 feet lmao. Even that was terrifying

This just reminded me, the 200ft vert hill I live near bought/inhereted a pipe cutter like 10 years ago and they have literally used it twice in that time to create QP's

Sunday River used to have a sick one.. and would always cut a few QP's. hasnt opened in years though.

The only time i've seen one was at spirit and it was early april and there was crazy oververt so you couldn't ride it really, they probably didn't groom it in a while and it was melting so it makes sense. I didn't see anyone hitting it

fitting that you put this in non-ski gabber cause yeah that shit might as well be a different sport. respect to pipe skiers
