Supernatural 92, Black Crows Orb, chargey dad ski?

I'm helping a friend pick up a set of skis. He raced years ago and likes to rip groomers, hit a few bumps an tree runs. Skis Tahoe mostly but doesn't want anything too wide, 95 max probably.

Budget is a definite consideration, he's looking to buy skis for a whole family so doesn't want to blow a grand on a sweet setup really.

I keep finding 15/16 supernatural 92s priced aggressively and wanted to know what your dads/older brother/old guys are riding.

As for sizing on the supernatural 172 or 179 for 5'8"-5'9" 150-160lbs?

Any thoughts on Black Crows Orb?

Volkl kendo?

Thanks all!

Add the Enforcer 93 to the list of options.

Looked at those...can't find a decent sale on them anywhere.

Faction Dictator 2.0. Blows kendo out of the water

As a ski geared more toward backcountry is it going to be too light to really rip the shit out of groomers and ice?

I lean towards a nimble/poppy type of ski and enjoy high speed stability but it's not a high priority when I look at skis so I don't know anything about this category of skis really.

If you go to a shop that still has some in stock they might be willing to work with you... it's March so certain stores might be willing to move units for below MSRP.

EDIT: Backcountry.com has them in a 185cm at 20% off.

how old are kids? J master blaster may be good. 96 underfoot, but has deep sidecut so they carve very well. Also, if the kids are younger, skiing backwards is a pro for teaching. Just a thought

It is not at all geared towards backcountry. its 95mm underfoot with 2 sheets of titanal, which makes it great on ice/ variable conditions. It has a poplar-reinforced paulownia wood core, which is a sustainable, lightweight hardwood.

It's our frontside/ all mountain ski that is way more fun then Kendo (which is just a 2x4). We are dropping the price for next seasons model, so it'll retail for $649. It also gets a graphic refresh

Have him look for the Salomon qst 99 or92 if he really is worried about the waist width. It's a really solid ski which holds an edge really well. Best of all they can be found really cheap. We are currently sellin the 92 for $350 cad.

Also a good recommendation. the qst 99 and 106 are my favorite skis in the Salomon catalog at the moment.

@OP, still, look at the faction dictators, really fun ski

Thanks for the info, I looked at this ski a couple times but didn't have it on the list for fear it may be to lightweight/not hard charging enough.

@$350 CAD it's tempting right? I may be ill informed but I see the QST as a quintessential dad ski. Is it stiff, a little brutal or is it really easy to ski and carve for a variety of skier types and abilities?

Yeah, you def don't have to worry about the dictator not being enough. Its very well made

QST is far from brutal, has a tapered tip shape that makes it super easy to ski, with a medium-medium/stiff flex

They are super easy to ski. I was using the qst 99 recently to test the new shift binding and it's actually a good little ski. I used it in the park for a day even and it was fun. It was not great in pow but at 99mm I would not really expect it to be.

Mantras if he used to race and wants to rip

I've heard mantras rip but I don't know if I can sell him on a full rocker 100 waist which is why I was looking at the kendo?

You can buy factory blem I skis for half the price

Can't find anything in the size range I'm looking for...170-178.

Thanks for all the replies people!

Has anyone skied the Orb? My wife is stoked on the Black Crows Ova Birdie and I like their skis a lot.

Or the supernatural? Was I way off track?
