All the sudden NS, is super slow for me. threads come up fine, but almost every video is skippy, and pictures take forever, and usually dont load at all in forums. i feel like its the 3 flash adds going on at once thing....i have no problems w/ the adds, they look great, and are just awesome in general, but i feel like thy are slowing my comp down. anyone having any issues?

and every other site i usually visit is fine.
 
yeah, pictures aren't loading at all, in every forum, they do when i click on the larger image thing, but thats it. never had this problem before....
 
Do you kids ever consider that your internet is what is slowing your connection, not NS?
 
maybe your the one who should actually look into shit before you start talking out your ass
...but yea slow here too, looks like its already taken care of though

I don't just make a thread to take up space and ask a pointless question. Do you have to add your fucking attitude to every thread on NS?

Shit I thought that was just my browser fucking up. Threads like You laugh you lose suck now and b/s/t is a bitch having to click every picture individually to see it in a new window.
 
damn man you dont have faith in anyone! not every common NSer is an idiot

the "click to see larger image" used to load after a few seconds if not right away but lately ive noticed that it hasnt been at all
 
mine doesn't even try to load pictures, it just gives me the click for larger image button. It's a pain in the ass sometimes.
 
Every "common" NSer is 15 and lazy, so i disagree, there are people on here that i know arent idiots.
 
There's obviously a problem with something to do with the picture hosting side of things - it's being worked out.

Other than that, the pages load fine for me

 
don't think this has anything to do with the image server, but the flash banner ads are throwing a ton of warnings/errors. download flash tracer for firefox and you can see what i mean. lots of calls to unknown functions and such. tighter quality control over flash banners e.g. making sure they're not processor hogs with potential memory leaks could help speed things up a ton. i know, you can just download flashblock, but i'm a flash developer, and turning off ads doesnt give NS the impressions it needs to make money from those ads.
 
I just cant stand bright shit popping up all over the place, I seriously do not even visit newschoolers for anything exept the forums anymore. freeskier has annoying moving ads but at least they do not follow me around everywhere I go on the site. I hate this new trend, especially the ones that make noise, like those annoying ass oakley ones.
I will seriously consider buying product from any company that can actually make interesting adds that don't just flash around and piss me off.

 
Perchance if you catch something that is slowing everything down, could you grab a screen cap and send it over, or post it up in here?
We can control the ads, but things do slip through. So if something is causing an error, we just need someone to point it out! Its really hard to watch absolutely everything on our end, you guys are way better at catching this stuff.

 
the easiest way is, if you're using firefox, install the flash tracer

plugin and just let it run whenever you're on the site. i'll show you

any trace statement that the flash movie is making (text that a flash

developer can use to tell what functions within their movie are being

executed, if you're not familiar with flash), and it will also show

warnings or errors if the flash movie is making calls to unknown

functions and whatnot.

for example, as i'm typing this, i've got the line celebrity banner up top and the faction banner on the right side. the line banner is throwing a bunch of warnings...

the smith ads also run very slow due to the streaming video in the background, but that's a function of net connection speed as well as the processor hit that streaming video causes.

 
I have something that happens to me around midnight or 1 in the morning where it takes like 5 mins to load a page on NS but I am still surfing other sites in a different tab at the same time. Does this have to do with the clock turning over and the time difference thing too?
 
Yeah I totally dig the ways to check them, but remember that Newschoolers serves almost 11 million page views per month, with two ads per page. So thats 22 million ad loads per month, and there's no way for us to catch everything.
Usually the problems come from some obscure ad coming from an ad network, which is really tricky for us to spot. Ads are geotargeted too, so I might not be seeing the same sets of creative as you are.
Thats why its really important for users to grab screen captures and the links of ads causing problems. Allows us to track the ad down super quick.
