super or hibachi kings

First, I get the impression the the H3o crew is very uptight. i am probably buying the flick anyways. second, wicked will be sick. it would be impossible for it not to be. My thoughts on super: looks like it will be a good film. the ad in freeskier looked very unprofessional and like it was made in paint though, just my opinion. off trail productions looks good this year and i will probably pick that one up.

Point of the rambling: these are independant companys. they dont get big time sponsers or tons of money for filming. buy all of the low budget movies you can to support skiing (especially if youre in the east since thats where most of these companies shoot). so what im saying is... ask for these movies for christmas/hannikah/ kwanza/ whatever. just get them so these guys can get buy and progress the film industry more. I know ill be buying all of them.

Neil, wow, that was extremely unprofessional. I used to thing of SAS films as pretty cool but you seem like a total asshole who's full of himself. I was going to enter your editing contest, but like 80% of your footage for that is follow cams, how is that good cinematography? Many of your statements were hypocritical.

Everyone else, learn what you're talking about before opening your mouth.

Find out what good cinematography is before you bash on H3O films. I watched the beta copy and from what I saw it's excellent. Most 'video companys' out there have awful cinematography. ie; putting the skier in the center of the frame for every shot. H3O utilizes many compositional techniques, if the shots look dark to you, brighten up your TV / Computer, I have a 48' widescreen projection HDTV and the movie looked downright incredible. The music is fine (unless they still used that bob marley song) and the editing is fine too.

Quit your bitching, when you can make a movie half as good as Anthony and the team at H3O can, then you can complain. Until then, shut the fuck up. H3O probably gets the most rag out there and they're a downright sick company.

nothing neil said was unprofessional, he stated his opinion from a professionals standpoint and stated cold facts. im not gonna repeat these facts because it seems everyone who has seen the movie have noticed these oddly lame tactics to making a movie, with the exception of a few fools who dont seem to have there heads on straight. Either way this thread is not on whos better H30 films or SAS Films.Its on what movie to pick up Hibachi Queens or Super and it seems to me that the majority of the people in this thread have said super for logical reasons. so to the person who started this thread who wanted to know what flick to pick up get super you will be much more satisfied.

 
^ Dude, it's not a matter of what movie's better, this thread is pretty much about the 'cool yellow snow productions' and the 'h3o films that everyone talks shit about'. I'd get Hibachi King over Super, I'd take Hibachi King over Wicked anyday. Why? Because it's not about the editing, and that's basically the main thing people are ragging about. BTW, those shots aren't poached, Freeskier Jibfest? He shot those for himself AND for freeskier.

yah dude, fuck, heres a lesson for h3o, when i worked construction, one thing i learned you never ever want to do is get a bad name, you would think that after the fiasco that was gweyn, due to actually having people pay him to audition, and the fact that there were no 16mm film shots, although it was dubbed a 16mm film. Hibachi, heres the next fuck up, you hyped this shit up sooooo much but you didnt deliver, and then half of the pros segments is poached shit through the fucking woods, if there was a law that you needed permission to film someone, you would probably lose half your footage.

Hey guess what? I'm neil's girlfriend, im not a pro skier, i'm not a videographer, but i am an artist and this is directly from my mouth. Creating a movie is art, whether thats what you want or not. If you go out and try to sell your name, you will be compared to everyone else. Your work has been critiqued, and maybe you don't agree. What you might want to consider is that people DO see things they dont like in your work, so you can choose to grow from that, or you can say 'fuck em.' Either way, getting defensive won't change a person's opinion, and like it was previously said, that will be what gets you a bad name in the business.

A lot of people won't like Wicked because it is themed and 'artsy.' When people talk shit, I will say the same thing to neil. Dont get personal with your work, because everyones opinion is valid. Thats what a forum is all about. On the other hand, if people talk about you personally and your character, defense may be required.

If people just baby you and your work, you cant grow. Every time a professor has shot down my art, it upsets me, but i'm glad they can be honest about it. Getting harsh criticism from someone in your field is awesome. If you can't agree with that, ok. Just say 'fuck em' and dont worry about it.

Some people may think I don't have a right to get involved, but I personally know how valuable criticism is.

 
i dont like the name 'Hibachi King' cause it doesnt mean anything. sounds like a cheap sushi restaurant. And the song was a really bad choice for the trailer but whatever props on making a movie.

sasgirl, many of the 'attacks' against h3o are unfair, IMO. Anthony made a great movie, and people still judge him by the 16mm confusion in gwynne and other minor things.

Apestead, those shots through the trees aren't poached, he's just including trees in the foreground to frame the shot. It's a technique used by photographers and videographers that just looks downright sick.

OK, H30 films is a joke, its officially established.

I know they mean well, but lets face it, the cinematography, editing, music choices, etc, are laugh out loud funny for a variety of reasons.

Let this thread die out and everyone leave Anthony alone.

If he ends up killing himself because of this thread you should all fell very guilty.

 
BTW, I know I overreacted here, but it's because H3O Films is a good company, and they really made a sick movie. If you don't like the music, that's your own personal opinion, don't knock the whole company for it. Anthony's filming skills are incredible, much better than what I see from most people out there.

I felt the editing in Hibachi King was pretty sick, it's not all fancy with overlayed graphics and crazy music like SAS Films but if you notice, the music really does flow with it, it's not always putting a new clip exactly on the beat, it's different things.

But yeah, in the Movie Maker cult, neil's 'goons' are always bashing H3O in there without reason and it's really lame, obviously none of you people see it if you're not in the cult but people like stuhalverson have some problem with H3O that they've never let die and it's annoying as hell.

With all this downright bashing maybe I will offer a small piece of constructive criticism. Take it to heart or just disregard it I could care less, but I figure I would get it out there.

Steve mentioned using trees to frame the shots to give it a little bit more touch, I think this is a really good idea myself. Shows that you put some time into scoping out angles, but I feel in the movie it gets extremel excessive and doesnt really help out at all, mainly because instead of using a few branches and such to frame a shot you use a forest to cover up the action. It basically just distracts from the focus of the movie. Theres my two cents, hopefully its a little bit better than the other peoples on here.

i haven't seen Hibachi King yet, but i saw an early cut of Super!, and i have to say, it was suprisingly sick, amazing skiing, and a different soundtrack than any ski movie...it's illin

You obviously know nothing about graphic design, what I do is my style. And uh, I rarely use gradients. Drop shadows help the text stand out from the background, I like to use them, what's the deal? I don't see you knocking your buddy neil (no offense neil) for using the same colorized threshold in all of SAS' web stuff.

BTW, when you can make over $4,000 and $2,000 in ski equipment doing something you love in like 100 hours, then you can criticize.
