So i really want to Get a motorcycle at The end Of The summer for college i just finished my first year at Colorado state university and am going to live in a House about a mile away from school and i cant decide IF i want a crotch rocket or a super moto what do younguys think i should get??

Supermoto all day, more comfortable for everyday riding, less dangerous(slightly), and more fun (IMO).Take a look at the Aprillia SXV 4.5, or the Ducati Hypermotard 796, or the Suzuki DRZ 400 supermoto

A supermoto looks like a shitload of fun, and more comfortable than a sportbike. However, I don't ride so don't take my word for it. Once I get the money, and can find a rider to shadow my riding to get my license, I plan on snagging a bike. My plan is to find a nice enduro, so I can do some light off-roading.

Best bet is probably the SuperMoto then, im kind of in the same situation right now but im leaning towards the sportbike to throw the girl on the back. Ive had a Bike for the past 3 seasons, started with a Ninja 600, then CBR600, then CBR954 then an R6. Crotch rockets are deff fun and fast but a SUpermoto can get the job done as well + you can get them for fairly cheap, they are great on gas, and has the more comfortable feel of a dirtbike. Also you can do some light trail riding with a SM. Heres a thread I made a little while ago hat died out kind of quick on Super Motos.

I want a supermoto too, but I wouldn't suggest you getting a suzuki. in terms of power, handling, reliability, and all-around looks, DRZ 400SM's fall short of KTM's and Husqvarna's bike in the same class. getting a DRZ SM seems to be the cheapest way into the supermoto world though, I agree with finding them for around that price. to me, there are levels of quality and power when it comes to bike manufacturers, like tiers. Aprilia, Ducati, MV Agusta are like top of the line, and make some sick bikes (for a hefty price). then a tier lower are your mainstream contenders, like KTM, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha, and these are the most cost-effective. relatively cheap overall bike prices, and parts and mechanics are easy to locate and cheap as well.

but i'd spend the money on a KTM 525 SMR. loads of torque, classic KTM quality, and looks absolutely gorgeous. there's a 450 version too if you'd feel more comfortable on that.

if not that, then a Husqvarna 610 SM. no one rides Huskys around here, and they're so underrated. good looks, too

I'm leaning more towards one of these though. i was torn between supermoto and sportbike, for both looks and rideability. but when i looked at how i'd actually be using my bike and how i ride, this fit me perfect. naked bikes are so badass

I would get a super moto for mostly city/tight turn riding.

For me, I got a sport since I have a 1 hour ride before I get to any decent road. Also, everyone I ride with all have super sports, so being the odd man out would be no fun.

As a compromise, I would get a 600 sport. Just make sure the damper is adjustable if you do a lot of city, or else it gets annoying quick.

Actually, if you're just starting out, try to get something ultra tame. Maybe even skip the sport for now and get a sport touring. You'll live longer this way.

Depends on what you want to do. Around town a supermoto will be more fun because it is lighter and easier to maneuver, but the sport bike will be able to go faster. Personally I would get a dual sport (dirt bike with a license plate) so I could ride around town and also go ride trails. It's a personal choice, neither is better.

ok if you never drove a bike before then do not even consider something over 600cc.

honestly the best beginner bike is a ninja 250, light cheap, and the girls wont know the difference.

get some training before you even get the bike.....if not your more then likely going to kill yourself.

you will probably kill yourself on that.

seriously the first thing you need to do is take the course and see if you can eve drive a bike.

please borrow your friend's dirtbike and learn to ride before buying one and dying instantly

they are somewhat tricky to get the hang of. the clutch will be much easier on a supermoto or sport bike but it's still something you need to figure out before running into a crowded city and weaving between traffic

by beginner i don't mean never ridden before, believe me I've ridden dirt bikes i know how to do clutch, i know that they are dangerous and its different on the streets by beginner i mean i have never owned a motorcycle and i am going to take a 2 day class as well i just wanted some opinion but I've done more research and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a supermoto now i just have to find the right one

Yeah I'll see you on the news I'm sure. Dirt bike=\= motorcycle. Weight difference is huge clutch is lighter. Just take a class before you buy anything and don't think you need a lot of power. A 250 super moto has plenty.

if you were to go sporty Id start on on 250. maybe a 08' and up ninja 250r. looks good but doesn't wanna kill you and its cost effective. For supermoto/duo look at KTM. You could always get a higher cc trail bike and get a road kit for it.

spend 5 grand to transport yourself 1 mile?

a motorcycle will only be rideable early fall quarter and late spring quarter. it's going to be too wet/cold to ride in any time else.

also...5 grand to blow on a bike after your first year of college? wtf? please don't tell me you're thinking about financing a bike (not that any bank would give you a loan)

This. I owned an '08 Ninja 250R last summer (real cheap and keep their resale value) and I still had plenty of brushes with death. That thing could beat most cars off the line. DO NOT jump to a 600cc right off the bat unless you have riding experience. I test drove an '03 R6 with a full carbon fibre exhaust system pushing out around 130 horse and that fucking thing wanted me to die, it would've succeeded if it had been my first bike.

You're fuckin' good at this.

I want a KTM 450 SMR so bad I can taste it. It's gross and bitter and I love it. Some of the supermotos are amazing, but lose the birtbikey flipability that is so much fun. Just enough kick in the ass to be truly fun on the road but still small enough to rip some off road and not feel like you're riding a jetski.

My next two wheeler will probably be either that or something I make from catalog parts.

Thanks for all the confidence on the future my life but anyways like i said i am going to take a class and have friends who have crotch rockets none with super motor but believe me i won't buy one before I've taken the class and gotten a feeling for it.

if it has a motor, i love it. bikes, quads, trucks, cars whatever.

those 450's are so so sick, but i feel like after riding it on the road, i'd get too used to the power and want more. would be nice to play around on my friends' tracks after riding home from work though!

but thats why i want a sport bike, because i have a dirt bike for track/trail use. have you ever seen an MV Agusta Brutale? if they weren't so expensive, i'd already have one. sexy sexy sexy

Take the class and get the endorsement on your license, then look for a bike. You're going to learn a lot you didn't know about the sport and maybe yourself in 2 days. And you'll look like a classic douche when your friends have to drive your bike home for you.
