Super 8 Sasquatch Festival '11

I bought my first Super 8 camera before Sasquatch Festival in May of this year. But the one I had actually didn't end up working, so I had to borrow a friend's Canon 310XL and brought 6 cartridges of Kodak Ektachrome 100D film.

Shooting this edit was super fun as it was my first time ever shooting on film. I tried to utilize the conventions of traditional Super 8 films (by that I mean a lot of old home movies) by doing snap zooms, run and gun shooting, and sometimes odd cuts. I wasn't always trying to create the best compositions or make perfect camera movements, I was just out to capture the experience of Sasquatch with my friends in the style that I always imagine when I think of Super 8.

The colors turned out exactly how I wanted them to; I wanted the image to look kinda shitty, and I think it does. I'm a little bummed that there was some sort of wire in the gate for a lot of the shots, but oh well.

Hope you guys like it! CC is welcome of course but I was more posting this for anybody who is interested in shooting on film.

Total cost of film: $90

Total cost of processing, telecine, and shipping: $120

Also, I did not just finish this video. I edited it quickly after the festival and it has been done for some time now, but I just happened to think of it today and decided to post it for those curious about shooting Super 8mm.

Makes me wanna go to sasquatch next year... Except for I don't drink or smoke which I could see being a problem... still a sick festival.

Sick footage though

drugs are bad, mkay...

haha but that was pretty dope man, really had a retro vibe. film can make some cool images, but it sure sounds like a bitch though haha

haha well as long as you still have a good time at shows without drinking or smoking, you will have an awesome time. lots of people who are way into drugs, and lots of completely sober people, and tons in between. i love sasquatch.

I know dude. Shortly after the festival I got a replacement for my original, and they actually upgraded me to a Minolta Autopak D6. Can't wait to try it out, gonna buy some more film once winter rolls around.

yes! I am not the only one haha I immediately thought of Woodstock when I started watching. But good job Will this makes me want to get into actual film.

glad it's reminding people of that, that's exactly the type of thing i was going for.

and yeah, she ended up blacking out shortly after that and missed all the shows that day haha

That was awesome, makes me want to be back there. Such a great way to capture it too, the mood of the video fits how awesome and fun everything is there. Pretty sure I saw myself in the shots from Chromeo too.

That was awesome man! I love how Stept used the same song, and had the vibe was the same in both edits. I really enjoyed it. Nice Work!!

That was sweet; I loved the shots of the bouncing balloons.

Super8 is my favorite film format to work in. I have a Minolta Autopak S6.

didn't you post this before? i'm positive ive seen it before... anyway, great edit, the one and only place film burn is allowed.

i've posted it in the shooting on film thread.

yeah all film burns in this piece are legit and came on the film, no .mov film burns here.
