Anyone here go there or transferring next semester or maybe even be an incoming freshman ? I'm transferring next semester and I already talked to the advisor of clubs and I'm thinking of starting a freestyle ski team, how many of you would be interested ?

yeah it's a good school. just cause its SUNY doesn't mean anything. They're getting more and more competitive. My buddy just recently got denied with a 3.0 as a transfer.The school is also rated top 5 best schools in the north east. the campus is legit, i really like it. I only live an hour and a half south but i think it's worth it for you to atleast check it out. Mad kids from long island/NYC hit me up sometime if you're thinking of making the trip i have friends up there i'm usually up every weekend or so
 
I've visited. The campus seemed a little bit bland and spread out but they have a subway, they also have some pretty cool art and statues. Not too sure whether they're too good of a school, but my dad went there for 2 years and he's doing alright.
 
im a sophomore here and I love it. The winters are brutal though, walking to class in the morning in january/february is miserable. I'd definitely be interested in joining that club

plattsvegas is pretty close to whiteface which is cool. not an amazing academic school from what i understand, but suny schools tend to have a pretty good reputation

And I played little league with the guy rapping in that video, Brandon Martin. He even cried when they lost the championship I remembered after my team beat them. Huge claim and name drop but oddly true.

And as far as Plattsburgh goes, I was thinking of studying Environmental Studies up there..close to the dacks and VT. Fly fishing and skiing close by. I'm using the GI bill so I'm considering going to school on VT as well. Currently in Suny Orange and content getting my two year here..
 
Went there for 1 semester. Place is a nightmare. Idk who says its a good school and rated top whatever in the northeast....school blows. Academics are horendous there, no respectable companies recruit at all from platts. The school campus is so ugly. The food there is some of the worst college food i have ever had at a college before. Instant diharea. The average type of kid who goes there is a fucking scum skater/druggie. Seriously would avoid not going there. Ended up going to Pace and am so happy there. Not to mention the professors are awful.
 
And the award for biggest lie told on NS today goes to....YOU!!!!! LOL how can you even spew that crap? You do realize that the Northeast encompasses the Ivy League, MANY private schools that are top-notch, plus many public schools that are better? Maybe Top 5 school that is public that is located in Plattsburgh...but beyond that, SERIOUSLY?!
 
My uncle went there, makes 200k a year. My other uncle has a great teaching job in saratoga, and my mothers best friend went there and teaches special ed in queensbury. so you can't say people look at plattsburgh as a joke. Clinton Dining hall does make you shit your brains out. I have to disagree about the " average skater/druggie" have yet to meet any.

Also, there academics really aren't " shit" the environmental science program iam going into is fairly accredited. Also the nursing program is top notch.

Relying on a recruiting company is weak man. Sometimes your gonna have to do things for yourself and get your own name out there.

Ok campus is ugly, I get that..

Pace might as well be in a different state. Besides the fact the closest 'hill' is a joke compared to Whiteface and VT, there is hardly a clean trout stream within 20 miles.

Who's your uncle that teaches at toga? And I know a few people that go there. And my grandma loves in Plattsburgh

I get it that this is kinda a huge generalization what I said and maybe I was a little wrong. But after going there, looking at who recruits from your school is a major part depending on what you want to do. As a finance major with a 3.5+ GPA, Pace has really good recruiting from top companies. Currently doing a summer analyst gig at JPM through recruiting at Pace. No sort of connections like that at Platts. Pace compared to Platts is black and white. Pace is academically so much better, I dont really care about what people rank schools at. I had a miserable time there, then again people love it so its all good.

 
it's all about who you know really, but yeah i'm going for environmental science perfect place to be for that sort of stuff, adirondacks right there and i live about 5 minutes from lake george and getting internships with the DEC and environmental companies around here won't be a problem, thats what were all about in the dacks
 
I guess ill be the only one to second you on this besides the skater/druggie thing but half the kids there are scumbags and half potato. party scene is getting weak, 3+ years ago it was a good time. The town is a shithole. The locals are scumbags. Girls are gross. Dorms are shit besides Hood which they just renovated. Only good thing to look forward to in platts. is the bars. They have specials every night of the week besides the weekend so theres always people out. If you like rednecks, potatoes, 7's, shitty food and a hyped up party scene goto plattsburgh. But this is all forwarded from me just visiting for the past 5ish years for friends and an ex girlfriend. Cant stay there more than a week without wishing I never came. But theres Whiteface I guess. Your success should be taken elsewhere.
 
I toured it as well as most of the other sunys over the summer. Campus seemed okay, not as modern or Nice as binghamton or geneseo. Yes there is whiteface, but the locals are not bourgeoisie
 
lol @ anyone thinking a SUNY other than Binghamton or Geneseo is good academically. have fun in the middle of nowhere.. go to a real fucking school
 
depends purchase really good acting music and filming they have a 34% acceptance rate.

also stony brook is a good suny school.
 
ok, but what i'm saying is OVERALL a degree from bing or geneseo will be looked more highly upon than a degree from ualbany
 
I can not agree. That statement really is a huge generalization depending on major and all. It obviously is personal preference too when it comes to what you want to study and get out of it. Like talked about up there, obviously a finance major wouldn't have finance or business as a major and go to fucking cobelskill.

Worry about getting an education and studying what the fuck you want too study. Don't go somewhere because some people say it sucks following the bullshit negative trends themselves. Right out of high school, students are obsessed trying to find their major and what they want to do but how many times that does that switch on average.

Bottom line, check out the different options. Weigh them. Study what you want, not what has been beaten into our heads for years..
 
agreed, i'd go to cobelskill if i wanted to study agriculture or something. Saying plattsburgh is a shitty school baffles me, because in the end.. it's not. Its about what YOU do to get a job. Like my transfer counselor talked about, a job won't look at where you got your degree differently if you got it from say, plattsburgh or St. Rose ( in my case a private school i went to vs a public) i'm just saving about 20k a year on tuition. Yeah, if you went to harvard it would be a little different. But if you can afford a private school with mommy and daddy paying for it or even you being in debt and thats what you wanna do. GO FOR IT.

in the long run, college is college its what you make of it and how you present yourself when trying to get a job. Don't go bashing on other schools. SUNY is SUNY and they're all great schools.
 
Well my cousin who just graduated with a business degree from Ualbany just got 2 interviews with Pepsi for sale development and macys for executive development. Can't say those are really shitty jobs just getting outta college.
 
I've been in the burgh for a couple years now. Here's the rundown

Pros:

Big party scene

Whiteface is only 45 miles

Subway + Tim Horton's on meal plan

Professors are above average for SUNY, or so has been my experience (I've had 1 genuinely bad prof in my 5 semesters here)

Decent skate park uptown

Hiking Everywhere

Cool sculpture installations around campus

Nice Gym w/ rock climbing, raquetball, and a pool

Winter is November - April

Cons:

The dining hall food is of poor initial quality, and prepared by ex-cons and hicks (not that they aren't nice folks....)

It's quite cold and extremely windy

Weather changes frequently and irratically(sp?)

City cops like to bust the house parties, and Campus cops aren't 420 friendly

Bland colored, spread out campus (but still in walking distance)

Winter is November-April
