few weeks. theyre just testing them out, getting them warmed up no intentions of blowing right now for open. killington did the same thing the other day. ski season is coming
fair enough not doubting that. i just know that in these specific two situations (facebook investigating) they are simply warming the guns up. do doubt theyll be shootin for opening soon
They said on twitter that their only testing today top to bottom, with no plans to open.. besides, today's the only day in the next week or so that will be cold enough, so its not really worth it for them
Sunday River is notorious for announcing their opening an hour before it happens. I don't trust and advise everyone not to trust anything they say until the oh by the way, we're open or the oh by the way, we're opening in an hour announcement.
Actually in a tweet earlier today, Sunday Riv said that they dont have intentions of opening THIS weekend. possible next weekend? they have snow blowing temps all weekend
"For those of you dusting off your equipment and frantically searching for your pass—stop[/i]!—our plan isn’t to open this weekend, we’re simply testing out the $1 million in new snowguns that we purchased over the summer. Rest assured though that our goal is to open on or before Halloween as we have for the past five years. Our commitment to snowmaking is there, just as it always has been."
And thats the main reason we are prepped to open. We want to be the first every year. We were the first last year (opened at 8am) as well but we "gave" it to killington cause we felt bad for them.
sunday river spun lifts and created more snow in one night then a basin could in half a week. Thats even being generous to abay. and thats cool you skied. the midwest and eastcoast both did a week earlier!
I wouldn't be so sure of that, the weather report on their website shows lows around freezing for the next few days, and thats not including the lower temps at the top of the mountain. theres still hope for this week
i skied the same day killington opened on natural snow, not too worried. I was making a wise crack at OP because there have already been mountains open. There doesn't need to be a thread for every ski area that tests their snow guns.
"It appears as though the weather is going to be warm this week - which means no snowmaking, but starting next Monday, there's supposed to be a cold snap. Cross your fingers, we're hoping to make snow asap."goddamnit mother nature
I'd go, but tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of my broken wrist & arm/torn meniscus in my knee that happened at SR. I'll wait a bit, and am not too sad about it.
