Sun Peaks Is Going To Be Lame

Does everyone that ski Sun Peaks think that this year is going to be even worse than the last year or is that possible? Last year the park didn't open until like half way through the year! It was gay!

um..... we do get a lot of snow like maybe last year, as far as the park isn't there someone new coming in this year? at least I hope so, park is in a bad place anyways

Uh, you say we don't get snow? Where the hell were you when all the other mountains had to close down a couple years ago due to not enough snow. Guess what, that year Sun Peaks was open and going relatively strong.

Yeah the park needs work, but it's the fault of the owners who keep refusing Burton to sponsor the park and provide us with a killer set-up.

Um there is a lot more than just Burton wanting to sponser the park or other rumors like Red Bull wanting to sponser the park. I can't believe how people got that rumor so mixed up. No such deals went into place only simple interest without either partys making any big moves mostly by insurance reasons on both sides. It would be great if it was as simple as Burton coming along and sponsering the park but its simply just not that easy.

It's not strictly for insurance reasons, though that is a major point. Sun Peaks wants to keep the mountain as having a family orientated mountain as well.

after fernie, kickinghorse and whistler last year i geuss im spoiled. Sunpeaks just doesnt have the terrain or the snow nevermind the backcountry.

The only reason we stay open is because of the summer grooming and lack of rocks... usually that means lame terrain.

why the hell would burton or red bull wanna sponsor sun peaks? talk to telus and see if theyll hook you up like they did with big white and silver star

Sunpeaks park is partially open.

one funbox.

one flat rail.

one handrail ledge set up flat.

one flat-down box.

It was kinda sad to see kids hitting rails and hiking the park on a 15cm bluebird powder day on thursday.

Mainly because if it was skiers hitting it, it was the park crew and the rest of the ski crew.. and they've been super stoked on it and will take what they can get out of the park.

I'm heading there this coming weekend (jan 5-7),, wat can i expect,, is it worth it to bring my park skis? any big jumps like they had last year at christmastime???

so its dumping in town even more tonight. Tomorrow should be fairly awesome. Anyone skipping school and heading up?

Couple of my friends skipped thursday to come up. I know my brothers having a tough time debating whether to search for pow or hit up the park. He has a split shift so he's only got a bit of time to do it in.

shit apparently link into my hotmail dont work. I've got a bunch of sick photos of the park that Toby sent me. will put them up when im not lazy

^^

True, they are still making snow to allow skiing all the way to the bottom. I am heading up on wednesday and friday this weekend I think. A friend of mine said that the stuff off the crystal was pretty good.

Anybody have any recent trips up there? I was only up on the 18th of nov. and it sucked. I havent gotten the chance to go since. Is the bigger park shaping up or what and does anyone know if were getting a pipe this year?

No pipe is being built this year.

They have a little green park up, the starting of the blue park, and they're beginning to build the black park.

I'm home from school and am here for three weeks. Rode today for the first time. Fresh snow last night. Not everything is open yet, but it's still pretty nice, quite soft. A lot of it got tracked up pretty rough after two hours or so though, but that's expected.

No pipe? Thats really gay. Maybe harper will make theirs so I can ride a pipe at least a few times before I go to BW and Silverstar.

Is anyone going to be shredding Sun Peaks from the 27-30? I'm a Whistler guy going on family trip and it would be sick if there is a local rider who would be down to show me around. Looks like there is killer freeride terrain and would be great to have a guide. I shred super hard and can keep up with any group. Will provide weed tokes and brewskis for guidance to the gnar. Can also guide you around Whistler if you ever come.
