anyone else been working on ski trails in the summer? i feel so lucky because my local mountain said i could do whatever i wanted on the mountain.

wow thats awesome that your mountain lets you do that kind of stuff... you should clear some trees in a secret spot and plan for an epic "backcountry" style booter

nahh my mountain (wachusett) is covered with an "old growth forest" which basically means that they cannot cut down any more trees, which sucks because there could be like twice as many trails as there are now.

I don't know about doing it without there permission......
I saw in the paper this winter that a bunch of guys got in really big trouble at Jay Peak for doing exactly that

I'd be careful in saying that. Most resorts are on Forest Service land, which means that if you're caught you can be fined by the federal government and prosecuted for trespassing and vandalism. So while the resort may be cool with it, the government most certainly is not.

There was an article about this in the last issue of Powder.

Oh fuck yeah dude. You have a stinky (it looks like). Build a road gap and you will have POD on Pinkbike dude. Just build a bit of a kicker off that boulder and you have a nice road gap.

Big Illegal Jay: Vermont Sentences Pirate Ski-Trail Cutters

It seemed like a good idea at the time. No, it was a pretty freakin’

stupid idea. It’s one thing to clear a little brush, it’s another to

clear a forest. Well, karma catches up: Two misguided backcountry

skiers from Vermont have been sentenced to 18-36 months (suspended) for

cutting an illegal trail near Jay Peak in the northern part of the

state.

This was no “thinning”—the two used chain saws to take out almost

1,000 trees and create an empty swath on Big Jay Mountain 2,000 feet

long. Paul Poulin, 48, and Alan Ritter, 47, pleaded no contest last

week to felony charges of unlawful mischief and are serving 60 days in

a furlough restitution program.

“It is good to see a felony conviction in this case,” Vermont

Natural Resources Secretary Jonathan Wood said. “This was one of the

most serious cases of damage to public lands we have seen. … We hope

that this sends a message to anyone else that cutting ski chutes will

not be tolerated.”

Big Jay, Vermont’s 12th highest summit, abuts Jay Peak ski area,

which is known for its access to delicious, though tight, out of bounds

tree skiing. The local backcountry community was outraged at the two,

not just for the moronic destruction but also because it closed access

to Big Jay from the ski area during the 2007-08 season.

Find out almost everything you could want to know about the incident,

including details on how the duo eluded game wardens in a high-speed

chase, from the Green Mountain Club.

A little different than cutting some alders and scrub brush. In reality those plats only hinder larger trees growth by using their nutriens. grass would suffice to hold the top soil in place

Yeah, I think he's planning on a drop because that would be a fucking massive gap. My friend who is fucking killer at DH has a Rebel and all he needs is a flash and he will have POD easily.

here is some other stuff i have been working on

i will be working all summer so more to come

no shit, those guys didn't thin some trees, they took out a whole fucking forest. 1000 trees is a ton. Guys got quite the punishment tho. they basically cleared their own full blown trail.
I wish i could do this stuff at my local mountain, but they get mad at you for skiing on the edge of the trees and the trails. Plus my mountain is 99% machine made snow.

yeah this is true. this year a guy who graduated a few years back and used to shred platty on a snowboard will back up there. he told me about that road gap. he's pretty insane

sick! def talk to your mountain about starting some down hill mountainbiking cause that would be awesome

it is plattekill mountain, NY. some of the steepest dh in the east. plattekill.com

just fr and dh. plattekill is improving a lot. they have been building a lot lately.

yeah we plan on gaping it. the landing starts a little past the backpack in the pictures. it is nice and steep

That will be fucking dope. This thread makes me want to go do something like this, which I easily could seeing as my home mountain is a five minute bike ride away, but I would get in some pretty deep shit if I got caught.

You Plattekill kids sure work hard. I can't think of anything specific but I feel really lazy every time you report on something.

UPDATE:

so i have been cutting some "personal glades' in the woods but it is hard to get a good pic of them.

so here are some pics of a small road gap. it is really fun. the tree next to the take-off is tail tap-able.
