Summer setup:

Just wondering a few things about a summer setup.

1. Do you need a drop in, or can you just lay turf or material over a grass hill and slide down that?

2. What turf/material is best for not scratching your skis while still being able to maneuver somewhat properly?

3. Does PVC piping damage skis quickly? I just got 2016 Line Future spins and I don't want to ruin them before the 2016-17 season even starts.

Thanks for the help!

You should have somewhat of a drop in or hill PVC slides very nicely and sharp edges can cut into it so I recommend park tuning before. Maybe round off the edges on the ends of PVC and grass turf rugs or carpets slides pretty well.

1) drop like plywood down and then put the turf down, it doesn't slide well otherwise on just plain grass

2) Use old skis if you can, i don't recommend using new ones, however, if you do, detune the edges underfoot otherwise you cut into the turf and the pvc very easily

3) You cant turn on turf, you basically straight line it. Turf doesn't scratch that badly

4) PVC doesn't damage skis very much, less than metal. When down the turf and the rail for smooth sliding

Put turf on the drop in as well so you don't change texture as soon as you hit it. You can put the whole setup on a hill if you want added speed or just keep it flat. I think it's more reliable on a flat surface but you should experiment with your yard.

Make sure your transition is as smooth as you can get it. That is actually the main reason people lose speed, not the surface. As for the surface, turf, lattice, orange construction fence, and old carpet (make sure to use A LOT of soap and water.) You can use a hill if you want and you honestly don't need to put plywood under it, you'll be fine. If you can't get enough speed first soak the surface with water, if that isn't enough use soap too. If you still aren't getting enough speed you need to make your drop in longer, or your tranny is not smooth enough.

You could buy some old shitty park skis for $50 or less on craigslist. Much better option than ruining your brand new shiny sticks. If you really can't afford it, make sure you cover everything around your rail with turf, carpet, etc. Like someone stated before, PVC does almost nothing to your edges as long as they are detuned.

Hope I helped.

But to answer your questions,

1. If you have a steep enough hill, it should work. I've even seen people make rope ladders with 1 inch pvc pipes and lay them out on the grass as a run in.

2. Your skis should be fine on standard turf, but there are chances you will get dirt in your ski bases, and chip your top sheets a lot. Picking up a pair of skis designated for your set up would be the best option.

3. PVC won't cause any problems. It is actually better than metal in my opinion because it doesn't really cause edge cracks.

1. Make a drop in, I tried to use a hill and it didn't work at all, you need the wood under the turf

2. Any turf will probably dry out your bases, either wax your skis a lot or use a beater pair for your setup. msnow is best but if you just put it on your lip it'll be good enough

3. pvc does nothing to your skis
