I know I’m a sinner for making another summer setup help question but I couldn’t find answers anywhere else. Me and my friends setup is planning on being 3 feet high at the drop in. Is that tall enough for a 6-8 foot inrun and a 8 foot rail? If 2x4s work as posts how deep should I dig to set the posts in the ground?

you’d probably want it a little bit higher my friends setup is similar but it’s like 5 feet high and you barely get enough speed for his 6ish foot long rail. if your gonna use msnow u can spray it with water to make it faster too

Make it taller. You can always shave off speed on your way down the ramp, but you can't go any faster than the setup allows.

You need it to be at least 8 feet tall in my experience

due to the sticky nature of turf you probably need a taller in run. I have the frame of a 14 foot long 8 foot tall in run built at the moment.
 
Taller is always better. I had an 8 ft tall drop in and that worked well enough. Ramp was pretty steep, at least 45 degrees.

You lose speed quickly on the flat part, so try to make the get-on immediately following the ramp.

I used plastic lattice on top of the turf for more speed. That worked really well, incase you can't get M-Snow.

I never dug the setup into the ground, just built it on top of the lawn. Good luck homie!
 
Yo pimp, I want a update on this. I’m planning on building something similar to your blue print. With a 3’6’’-4’ drop in with turf then construction fence do you think it’ll have speed? Also need to calculate the rise and run. What is a good size and length drop in, don’t want it to be too aggressive but don’t want it to be too gradual. And what is a good width to make the upper deck part and the inrun and lip.

Did you read the thread? That's not tall enough. I had a 3.5' drop in at my parents house and it sucked ass
 
Definitely needs to be taller than 3.5 feet. Even in the winter my waist high drop in sucked because it was too slow. I also had too long of a flat section before the lip. If you have a small space or not alot of material to work with you can't afford to lose speed anywhere.
 
The shorter the drop in the less in run you can have. Even with my og setup being 5 feet tall i think the flat in run part before the lip was like two-three feet. Then the lip which was an addition two-three feet. You really can make anything work tho. Don't plan on using turf on the in run, leave it for just the lip. I rigged up a 4 foot drop in ramp which practically transitioned to the lip itself and was fine. It's summer sketchup because you shouldn't need to be like jkarsteter and drop like $600 on a setup. Get some homies together and tools and start screwing some boards together

Ah watched the vid and it looked feasible. I thought I could get away with something super small and minimal requirements. I will replan and hopefully I can get it done,

You said “Don't plan on using turf on the in run, leave it for just the lip.” what do you mean by this?

Edit-did you set the footings of the drop in, into the ground?

If you dropped straight down from 3.5' you'd be going about 10 mph when you hit the ground. With the slope and friction, halving that is a good estimation. Even if you pump and use poles, you'd probably be going a less than 5 mph by the time you go up the ramp onto the rail. Idk about you but it's damn hard do do anything on a rail going that slow. Possible, but it's not fun after a while

Okay word, I’m glad I consulted before I started building, thanks monkey I will build a tall and grand drop in to become Tom wallisch
