i was worried for a sec there. lol. cause i mean who reads in the summer? j/k

leaving today:( for a whole month. what'll I do w/o the ocean??

Roots, why don't you just go get the movie? There's that thing called the library too if that's the book your missing. Otherwise read; it's good for you, and I'm not joking.

haha..that sucks to be forced to read certain books.

Summer is still a good time to read though. John Grisham books are the best..all about the exciting world of lawyers. Actually...it is exciting when there's bribing, killings, jury tampering and all that good stuff going on. Get Runaway Jury. Best book ever until i left it in a car i was hitch hiking right when i was getting to the climax. Goddamn it.

I got a list for summer reading, says we have to do like two reports or something. I do'nt know if they're serious so I'm not doing it

Yah I read a lot, mainly action, military, thrillers, stuff like that, Robert Harris, John Grishim, Stephen Coonts, but best of all, Tom Clancy, it's all good.

If your teacher presses you about Roots, just tell her, 'It's an epic chronicle of one family's torturous and intricate journey from their native Africa through a world of slavery and discrimination into the settings of contemporary America.' That should get you through.

I'm doing summer reading for my AP English class. I don't mind the reading at all, I like it a lot actually... what I don't like is the necessary 'book logs'... keeping a little journal about the book as you go along. That pisses me off, I prefer to read and absorb rather than stop to write about it all the time. I can work thoughts out in my head without having to put them on paper.

what kind of books does everyone like, I read all mystery and fiction like tolkien, terry pratchet etc.

'Don't like hesh - Don't like rap - kicked ol' sally cos she fat - I'm a jerk I'm a punk took a shower cos I stunk - smoked a bong killed a cat - had my nuts attacked by rats dad got nude - I wore a thong - for a hobby I make bombs' Tom DeLounge

hmmmm...roots sounds like it might be a good read.

the most fun books in the world to read are harry potter books. I love em. Cept the lady who writes them is being a lazy ass and keeps pushing back the release of the 5th book.

terry pratchet is excelent. I read fightclub this summer. If you thought the movie was fucked up, you haven't seen anything yet. I also read the clockwork orange. theres a whole chapter that's been left out of the americain version, and is also missing from the movie.

personally, the movie works better without it.

anywho...

i read clockwork orange for school this past year, screwed up book. i also read and enjoyed one flew over the cuckoos nest. right now im reading catch 22.

this site is the only stuff I ever read, and only cause there is not enough pictures.

I didn't like Macbeth much at all; I thought Hamlet was a lot better.

Best books I've read for school would be Fahrenheit 451, Pride and Prejudice (scary that i liked a jane austen novel but it wasn't bad), and Siddhartha (though i don't agree w/ the message). And my AP European and American history textbooks.

We had to read Oedipus for English honors this summer, Antigone (pronounced An-tig-ony/iny) was my favorite part. The irony, the tragedy, the passion... You could tell that this was the first one written.

Oh man shakespear was a long time ago. I remember really enjoying macbeth. Our class got divided into groups and each group had to make a movie of the scene they were given. I think i remember liking hamlet more though. Bah...i can't remember my shakespeare.

Anyways...i liked most of the books i read in highschool. There was only one i just couldn't get into...i forget the name of it..i think it was by margret attwood though..maybe. I read the first 3 chapters and hated it..so i used sparksnotes from there. The handmaids tale was my favourite, and lord of the flies was cool too.

ok, i was just venting and its not toooo bad. heres what i have to read: for my College Am. Hist. i have a long list that i have to read at least 2 from. i chose At Dawn We Slept, prob. the best book on Pearl Harbor ever, WHICH I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON ALL SUMMER! its thick and jampacked but i just started skimming. then for the second choice im gonna start Yeager cause while the man is a badass, he isnt that uhhhh... lets say prolific. then for AP english i have A Prayer for Owen Meany, which i enjoyed and am almost done. then, the second book is a fucking chick book!!! I have to read friggin the Poisonwood Bible, for chrissakes its on OPRAHS BOOKCLUB!!! thankfully, i have books on tape!

I would have to say that Tom Clancy is quite possibly my favourite author. Tolkein was a genious. Spike Millagan is great too, very entertaining with some of his stories about the war and all. I did really enjoy Macbeth actually, if you look into it in detail there is a lot more to it than you would think. Richard III is also very very good. Quite a good movie made about it also.

Oh god now i really do pity you... i haven't read the poisonwood bible, but that author barbara kingsolver... oh man her work sucks bigtime. I had to read her novel the bean trees this year for school, and it's a coming of age novel about some chick from kentucky who winds up in arizona. That author has some serious issues w/ male genitalia. There were at least 8 metaphorical references using male genitalia in that book.

if you liked catch 22, you have to read closing time. its by heller also, and a sequel to Catch 22.

Skapespeare is good in moderation.

samuel taylor cloeridges 'rime of the ancient mariner' is the only peice of high school literature i really took to. everyone should read it

I don't have a summer reading list for my AP classes, but I'm reading voluntarily cause it's good for you. I read Moby Dick and White Jacket by Herman Melville, and The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers by Dumas. I don't know why everyone hates reading, I read books year round, usually before I go to sleep, it's relaxing.

We have an old saying down on the bayou....Blehhhhh!!!

BLACK POWA!!! i say this cause we had to read an autobiogrophy or biogrophy on some one born before 1960 who shaped american history... i'm reading X

me 'is this Vanilla Ice?'

kid 'yeah'

me 'DIRTY HELL!'

kid 'what? i fuckin like the ice man!'

Gravtech, I had to read the bean trees as well for English, and it's true! but you know what? They only say 'Penis' once through the whole book...

Where do you go to school?

A moment is the most you can ever expect from perfection.

man i thought most people on this site were idiot druggies. i haven't read a book sice my freshman year of high school and i am now a senior.

Alcohol the cause and solution to all lifes problems.

She may only say penis once when she's describing the nub her husband has in place of a leg and then goes on to describe how the penis is out of place on the man's body. And then when she gets to that shithole in arizona when her tire goes out she talks about graffitti looking like little spermies. And then when someone is entering a building she talks about their crotch rubbing on the door handle.

I went to highschool in cincinnati, but i'm a freshmen at vanderbilt university.

Hmmm.... good books....

Ishmael- somebody Miller (and sequels!)

Ender's Game- Orson Scott Card

And I'm a big Michener fan... but that's only when I read for true pleasure, just to read. If I want ideals, I love Ayn Rand.

I just finished Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace by Gore Vidal. Brave New World by Huxley is quite interesting, not too long but it brings up some interesting points. I'm in the process of reading No Logo right now, so far it's good but it gets bogged down here and there.

dude Kami, you'd get on great with my sister. Michiner is pretty hard out aye, like real detailed stuff. I started reading Chesapeake & Hawaii but never finished them. My sister reads Michiner and Ayn Rand and stuff like that for fun, haha, it's pretty funny, and old books that are still in old English and were never translated, it's cool as. I think she can read Elvish too from LOTR!

I skimmed through one of my brothers tom clancy books...i forget which one, but it was waaaaay too confusing. Like every person seemed to have 3 or 4 different names. Like there would be a russian guy with a name like vladmir gorishnikov or something, and in the book he'd be refered to as 'vlad' 'vladmir' 'gorishnikov' and then the americans had some weird nickname for him.

I like patriot games though.

tom clancy is entertaining, but there's no literary value. good books that are entertaining and have a message are either Arthure C. Clark (get the collected short stories) or Ray Bradburry. their books are all about how if people stay the way we are, we will eventually destroy earth.

While i was tree planting i read the complete works of jack london. That guy, is an AMAZING writer, especially since he was a drunk. White Fang is so good...everyone should read that, as well as Sea Wolf. Incredible stories.

Also, if you like true story's, read Into The Wild. It's about some guy who travels across the states, then hitchhikes up to alaska to live in the wild, with basically no knowledge of the backcountry and no gear. It's such a wicked book.

back when I was in HS, we had summer reading, and every summer they would threaten us with quizzes and stuff when we got back. I read all those damn books and not once did it happen.. until the summer before senior year when I only read one of the three.. AND THEY FINALLY QUIZZED US. You got a quiz grade in the subject the books you chose were about, so I ended up with a 100 in like history, a 30 in science and a 20 in english. greaaaaaaat.

and get this.. from someone who used to complain about having to read books over the summer, i've read 2 and a quarter so far.. i'm doing the Lord of the Rings series (i never made it past the hobbit when i was youngeR), so I'm midway through the Two Towers.. haven't gotten into it yet, but that's cuz i don't have a ton of free time lately. That should improve when school starts.
