Summer jobs in the mountains

Hey everyone. I'm from the Denver area and I'm trying to find a job that would allow me to live and work up in the mountains all summer and was wondering if any of you had recommendations or ideas because I'm not really sure what my options would be. I was thinking about maybe being a counselor up at Woodward Copper for the summer so if any of you have experience working there I'd love to hear about it. Not married to the idea tho.

If you really want to spend the summer in the mountains, look into being a ridgerunner. You’d spend the entire summer getting paid to hike. Some of the positions are even up to 20 weeks if you’re into that.

That sounds pretty neat. What all does that entail and where do I search for something like that? I just googled "ridge runner colorado" and all that came up was a list of mountain biking trails.

I spend a summer working in mountain bike trail construction and that was rad. There is a fair number of paid positions with nonprofits and private businesses that do it.

It should be pretty easy to find listings. Most sections of the Appalachian Trail have ridgerunners. Here’s one posting for a position in Maine on the AT:https://www.matc.org/index.php/employment/

Other trails also have ridgerunner positions. The Long Trail for sure does. Likely the Colorado Trail, which is more in your neck of the woods. The actual hiking requirements are very minimal if you want them to be. You can get away with covering only around 35 miles per week. Of course you could do a whole lot more if you’re inclined. You are assigned a specific section of trail but outside of that, you can do largely what you want. The pay is not horrible.
