Summer Job Thread

I feel like a big portion of NS have seasonal jobs in the summer. Just out here wondering what kind of kick ass (or not so kick ass) jobs y'all found. If you've got a sweet job, holler. If not, bitch. If you've got stories lets hear em.

I'll start off, I've got a sweet job leading segway tours. I get paid pretty generously to rip on a segway for a few hours a day and talk history/fun facts or whatever I feel like saying. I don't mind looking kooky because riding a segway is a ton of fun.

Not so much a current summer job, but more of a career for anybody wanting money and winters off, I'm going into aerial firefighting. Just finished my pilots license, and starting my commercial, and I'm planning on entering the fire industry after uni. Pay starts at approx 50,000/year, but you only work from april to september. For those who don't want to fly, any wilderness firefighting is much in the same vein.

My summer job is keeping an older woman happy & satisfied while her son is out on some kind of gay little Segway tours. We mostly use his bed, as he never makes it so it's not obvious that it's been "used."

Housekeeping at The Hostel at JHMR. Job is easy, free rent, and I live within view of the tram. Mainly came out here to hold my spot for the winter, but probably put in 20 or so days skiing couloirs and all that jazz in the backcountry this summer. Highly recommend if you ever want the coolest year of your life, no more spots for this winter though.

Im a wild land firefighter. This is my first year doing it though. Ive though about going to flight school and becoming a pilot for fire... but you're gone all the time and I might want a family at some point. We will see though.

Yeah, it would be hard with a family, and most of the guys I know who do it just work a second job, in the winter instead of going away.

I teach swimming and lifeguard. Its cool with the tips n stuff, and the new place I work is super chill

My summer job is stripping beds from 8:30 to 11:45ish but getting payed till 12:15, 6 days a week, I get payed $14 an hour plus tips which is anywhere from $2 to $40 a day. Job has its perks like being ridiculously easy, them not giving a shit about me taking random days off, I can be decently late and get a payed 20min break. But since I'm working at a hotel there is some downsides like walking in on people having sex and rooms that were fucking nasty... Overall its a pretty ok job.

Just today, last room of the day I very cautiously knocked on the door said housekeeping and patiently waited. Total silence so I'm like well fuck it whatever, it was 1 hour past checkout time too so I thought they'd surely be gone. I use my swipe key to open the room and this really hairy Indian guy in his mid fifties started loudly yelling at me in really broken English while only wearing tight underwear. His wife was also just in underwear. I quickly said sorry and shut the door. Minutes later the guy comes out shirtless and starts talking to the maintenance guy and vented his anger saying he needed more time to checkout (already an hour past. Guy and wife leaves the room and that was that. No tip tho haha. But come on why the fuck wouldn't he use the inside lock on the door, yelled something when I knocked or even put out the do not disturb sign... it's almost like he wanted to pretty much flash me.

If you get past the whole walking in on people part which had only happened to my twice now, the job is pretty tight and pays well.

Do you ever steal things from ppls rooms? I did housekeeping at my local ski resort for 5 months back in 2012, and I'd steal basically anything. I'd go in their fridge and drink their alcohol, I'd eat their food, I'd steal money if it was left out, I'd go thru their luggage, steal weed if they had it I even used a guys bong once, if they had condoms I'd take a a sewing needle and poke a small hole in it

True story is definetly true. Either way though no I dont steal shit from people's rooms, ain't gonna loose a job and future possible jobs over something unimportant I might have "stolen". Shit people leave in rooms after they leave is a different story though, we'll keep it in a lost and found and after like a month or so it's free game. Left behind food is also almost all eaten, not by me fuck that shit, but by the other housekeepers with stomachs of steel. Half eaten pizza, food from the garbage, it's pretty fucked honestly.

Would work Timberline housekeeping once in awhile when they were short staffed. Never stole anything, as anything left in the room is fair game technically. Timberline has these super nice Pendleton bed covers, blankets, pillows, and workers would scheme all the time to steal those. I was to loyal to the company, but man I really wanted em.

Lol, idk i guess I'm just like that. I just don't feel comfortable enough to steal shit from peeps. I have morals.

I work at a North Face store in Park City. I see maybe 10 blokes a day, and some days we make 0 sales. I have no idea why it's even open.

Oh well. I've read quite a few good books and pay is pretty decent. I can't complain.

I'm pretty sure he is double cup

It's confirmed, this is like his 1000th alias... first one was Thackel, then dub cup and now his current one. Banning him is fucking useless so get used to it haha.

Almost forgot about this one...of my co workers walked in on a threesome, they didn't bother using the lock or anything and when she entered the room they just instantly froze and didn't say anything. After she left they resumed whatever they were doing.

What kind of history do u tell?

I'm a manager for rentals and concessions at a statepark. We are on a river that feeds into lake Michigan. It's a beautiful area but dealing with the people is an enormous pain in the ass. I've had people take our canoes and kayaks to towns 30 minutes south of us and leave them there, expecting us to go pick them up. And then they act all surprised and upset when they don't get their deposit back.

Also, the type of people that come in at 8:15 When I told you we close at 8 you can fuck off. Usually I'm polite and let you rent anyways, you're always rude asshole and you never tip.

But besides that it's pretty okay.

Never understood why there aren't more servers on here. I serve at a steakhouse over the summer.

I'm able to climb/skate/spearfish all day long and then go to work at 5 and make anywhere between 100-200 bucks in a 4 hour shift. Best gig ever. Once a week I have to pull a 10 hour shift but that's fine because then I usually make close to 200.

Third alias? lol you know nothing

summer park crew

refurbishing features, making new ones, building/organizing signage, helping out trail crew with digging/fencing.

getting pretty bored of it and the 530 wake ups are wearing on me but I can't really complain.

That was my summer job last year... serving has its perks, but I never liked it near as much as my other jobs.

Pizza delivery. I drive my car around high af listening to music. Can't complain.

My friend told me I should take his place delivering since he's leaving, but I think my parents would be more pissed than they are with my current job. I'd do it full time and make a lot of tips, but second year out of high school idk.

I've worked at Windells the past 2 summers as an office assistant and the office manager. It's a super rad job and you get a little bit of everything: Work/money, skiing, traveling, awesome friends and all that.

It's nice because it's totally different than Buffalo, NY. I've always wanted to get away from here, and for 3 months I can do that! But I also have a home to come back to and a break from being there. Which only makes going back that much more awesome.

I highly recommend doing something similar. If you've never left your hometown it's a good way to give leaving a shot without a ton of commitment. Summer jobs are great because they are temporary but it's enough time to fully disconnect for a bit. Camps are super rad in general whether its a ski camp or a "normal" camp because everyone is doing exactly what you're doing, usually for the same reasons. You get to meet a lot of different people from all over and camps are a mother fuckin blast.

I did/am still doing data quality for a meteorological organization. Its a lot of screen time but I can make my own hours and work remotely so it's worth it.
