Suicide in School.

I've been thinking a few days now about this situation and I think this is the most I'm ever going to understand it so I will share what went down at my school on Tuesday, May 5th 2009.

Skip ahead to 11 A.M. Tuesday morning. It's just another day at boring ass Canandaigua Acadamy. I'm in the field house playing ultimate frisbee when our school goes into lock down. We were all rushed into the locker room where we stayed for maybe a hour and a half hearing insane rumors about what was going on. We then got escorted out of the school with our hands behind our heads and got brought to the middle school where we stayed maybe another hour and got bused home from there. The school kept all our belongings and our cars at the school.

Not until I got home that day did I really clearly figure out what caused such a scare. While me and my friends were standing outside of the field house my friend Tom Kane was in the bathroom with a sawed off shotgun. Minutes later while we were in gym he went on to shoot himself. He also had 30 rounds of ammunation and 2 homemade bombs in his locker.

Tom was always known to say things that were just a little odd, but just taken as a joke. Apparently he was telling no jokes. This very sad tragedy has hit my school hard and really made some people very upset about how things were dealt with. Please just share your prayers with the Kane family and Tom's closest friends. I can't even imagine how hard it is for them.

now i dont wnat to sound like a douchebag here but, when people kill themselves, its fucked up to begin with, but when they do it in public places or when someone drives head on in traffic, it just seems selfish in a way(imo). especially in a school, its just gonna scar a ton of kids for life.
sorry again if i sounded like an asshole.
 
I can see what you mean.

It affected me over the internet, cant imagine being someone who went to and goes to that school.
 
vibes to everyone. I feel like suicide is sadly becoming more and more common. It is so hard to predict and prevent sometimes. People need to do a better job of reaching out to others.

Yeah that was rediculous. I got a text in the middle of 6th period saying a kid shot himself at CA and i was like holy shit. Atleast he decided not to go on a shooting rampage. We ended up having a moment of silence this morning for him down at naples. Vibes to Family and Friends
 
No your not being an asshole. Suicide is one of the most selfish act one can do. Unless of course he had an unbelievably bad home life where his parents weren't accepting the beat him, ect... Killing yourself in a public place is beyond fucked. This poor student obviously had some issues in the first place which led to this extreme, desperate act.

I absolutely feel horrible for him though.

hope you feel better man +VIBES+ to you and his family. a similar situation happened at my school about 2 weeks ago, cant imagne what his familys going through.

just before the suicide prevention part it said this:

Brandon Christensen, another senior, said he knew Kane and describes him as “popular” and a "good kid."

“It just blows my mind, it really does,” he said.

too soon with the "it just blows my mind" i think

 
i agree with you man, i mean definitely ++vibes to his family and friends, but people who commit suicide, especially in public, really are just striving for attention. so much so that they go to that extreme extent. its really sad, but the way i see it is that any person who seriously hates their life that much should just speak up and get help instead of resorting to suicide. imo, any life is better thank no life. but on another note, thank god he didnt use all that ammo on anyone else. that would be wayyyy worse. scary and sad story man... again +++vibes

i drove by canandaigua last night and they were having a candlelit vigil, there were a ton of people there

this one kid i was talking to from CA said his brother was the last one to talk to tom or something like that? how scary would that be to know afterwards?

these kinda things take a huge toll in people lives and really put things into perspective ... ive dealt with similar stuff man all i can say is be strong youll get through this with those around you ....

Dude I feel for yah, that shit is harsh :( ++++Vibes sent your way for sure man.

For me I know this guy from highschool who went to St. Fx in Nova Scotia that died because he was on shrooms and jumped out the window...the only thing is before he did the shrooms he went and on purpose took the grating and unscrewed it from his window so he could jump out it. It confuses me beyond belief and I'm still shocked.

Even worse, I have friends in res at my school and this guy who had his room next to one of my friend's room went a similiar path too and I feel right shitty about it. He was always in his room and would never chill with people or anything. My friends even joked about if anyone were to shoot up the school and go crazy it was him. Well when his parents went to pick him up after exams he woudn't open his door after a bunch of knocking and then later they finally got the room assistants to open up the door only to see that he had committed sucide.

Just thinking about all that shit makes me cringe and I have had thoughts in the back of my mind about these two people since I found out about it. Sad thing about the first dude is he just added me on facebook cuz he just got it like a month before he died and I was all like sick dude this guy is the man, he finally got the fb but now I'm at a loss for why he had to do himself in.

That was from the article, but did anyone else think that might have been a weird quote to choose for an article about someone who shot himself in the head?
 
Suicide is the coward way out. It is very sad yes, but you cant be sorry for someone that takes his own life, the easy way out. RIP though, for the family.
