Suggestion for forum - good ideas from other forums

1. the most anoying thing about the forum is that the sigs are jsut blended into the messages. Make 2 separate boxes for the message and the persons signature!

2. Split the forum up into more separate sections so that threads stay on the main page for more than 2 hours. (tricks, places to ski, music, politics, general discussion, freestyling, etc.)

3. Make a quick-post box at the bottom of the thread so that you dont have to load a new page to post.

4. On the list of thread, show who the last poster was so that people don't have to open up the thread when nothing new has been posted.

5. At the bottom of each forum section (ski-gabber, non-skigabber, etc.) make links to all other sections.

6. At the top of each section, show which members are currently browsing that section.

These things are all possible, I've seen them in other forums, and they would make it a lot easier.

1. THis is a bit of a problem, a double line would do htough.

2. There would be to many sections, too much to browse through, pressing next 40 isnt difficult.

3. Thats creates too many one word/flames.

4. It is a different colour i think, though if it isnt this is good idea.

6. to much clutter is cuased.

On the subject i really think there should be a quote fuinction, its very useful.

try logging out. that will tell you if anything now has been posted since you left.

no. personally i don't think those suggestions would really add anything to the site. The quickreply box would just bring more garbage that the mods have to deal with. Is it really that hard to click a button?

the #1 problem on these forums is people like you, newbies with 38 posts, who think they know everything about how to make shit better....if it ain't brokem, don't fix it. i think i speak for a lot of us when i say we like the way the site is now

Harvey's always looking to make the site better. No. 3 has been discussed on several occassions, and as stated it creates a lot of crap.

No.1 you can solve on your own by being just a little innovative. Check out my sig.

No. 2 I just don't like. The sections are fine. No. 4 it changes colour AND it says how many posts are there. your suggestion would make the look of the site too cluttered. As would no. 6, but I don't even see any value in knowing what section people are in.

Just because these ideas worked elsewhere doesn't mean they are good for this site.

at least change the signature thing, some people are not innovative and their signature looks like the next sentence of the post. I may be a newbie here, but not on other forums, which gives me the benefit of actually trying all these things, and they all work. The quick post doesnt add to crap, if someone is gonna post a stupid one liner, (which are sometimes actually funny), they are gonna do it whether or not there is quick post. It just takes less time for everybody to post. Did you know that most forums follow the same format, which includes the things ive mentioned. It seems to work for them, this type of forum isnt common, and there is a reason for that.

 
Yes, the signature idea has been talked about before and may be changed (you might want to search previous threads before posting stuff like this). Otherwise, I think people like this site the way it is... 450,000 posts on a ski site isn't too shabby.

yeah, the reason is that harvey (maybe with some help?) coded it himself. 99% of the message boards out there are using some kind of pre-made forum software. i personally think this kinda sucks and it looks unprofesional, because none of them have a unique look or function. i think NS works so well that i used it as a model for my own site (www.rapidculture.com) the only thing i added was a quote feature.

thank you, at least someone can understand that newbies are not always stupid kids who just got the internet and want to be a jerk to people cuz its funny. I have been a guest here before. Im not saying that the forum is bad, I just made some suggestions. This is the suggestion forum isn't it?

 
but the thing that says members currently browsing the forum is dumb, there is like 17000 members on here...it wouldnt work.
