Not just any book, I have my personal favorites when it comes to genres but... what would another book similar to A Catcher in the Rye and A Separate Peace be?

Try Robert Cormier? He wrote I am the Cheese, The Choclate War. Shit like that. It is kinda like Catcher in the Rye but they are all a little more physical.

the alchemist was pretty epic. it makes you really think about life.

levels of the game by John Mcphee was an amazing peice of writing as far as that goes. it is a 100 page description of a tennis match at the us open

trinity and catch 22 are classics that are amazing

cool, thanks. Keep em coming. I've read mocking bird and 1984 and Dan Brown books (they bore me). But I'll look into the others.

If you like fantasy I read and liked Eragon as well. I also read a book a while back called Valors choice, or maybe it was Terrans choice. I'll go see if I can find it. It was a pretty cool book, lots of action.

nooo, thank you though. I HATE fantasy actually... as I said, I really don't like n/f books, so the ones I do like need to be atleast moderately realistic.

similar to catcher in the rye,

well the great gatsby.

for non fiction id say 'shake hands with the devil : the failure of humanity in rwanda' its written by the canadian general which lead the UN force their. im pretty sure he is the guy played by nick nolte in hotel rwanda. its a pretty shocking book. the girl that was helping the general make it commited suicide because it was too much for her.

I've heard "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintence" is really good.

Uh... I like stuff by Douglas Coupland... but you might not...

Nathan West is pretty good, they are more short stories but still pretty long

also, Albert Camus and Richard Wright

if you liked The Catcher in the Rye, you might like Looking for Alaska by I think John Green. It's not exactly a classic but it's well written and at the very least entertaining.

I also reccomend The Time traveler's Wife, and Ender's Game even if you don't like science fiction. Oh and Bel Canto. It's a great book.

You should definitely check out Kurt Vonnegut, he puts a satirical spin on real world events. The one I read was Slaughterhouse Five and it was great, it was about the concentration camps during WWII, but it wasn't really fucked up at all.

Someone also suggested 1984, that book is kinda crazy, but it really really shows whats happening in today's society if you look deeper into it.

I'll try and think of some other ones, i've read soo many books its hard to just think up some lol.

The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis

On the Road- Jack Kerouac

The Dharma Bums- Jack Kerouac

One Flew over the cuckoos nest- Ken Kesey

damn straight, thats a good book.

id suggest also the screwtape letters by C.S Lewis, just because it is a damn interesting book, and a book called Going Down River Road by Meja Mwangi, its similar to catcher, but its a Kenyan themed book. very good.

Ashantaram, not really similar to the books you mentioned, but one of the most captivating books i've ever read. Give kurt vonnegut a try too.

Beauty, thanks guys. I've read most of the books you've suggested (so I apparently have good taste in books haha) but I appreciate the input, it's just hard for me to find good books that I actually enjoy reading.

the necrinomicon is a good book, that and hitchikers guide to the galaxy... da vinci code, and 1812 is a good book too.. but i'm not sure any of them have the same relation oh and another good one is the anarchist cook book.. haha

mitch albom maybe?

anyways- the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime by Mark Haddon is another book about mental illness
