From what I've heard, there are no restrictions or blackouts. The only people I could see buying a College Pass is the 18 year old Freshman who wouldn't qualify for the For20s pass.
It's a hell of a deal and I'm sure it's aimed at avoiding the college graduate skier drop-off. Not to mention the loyalty to the mountain that the deal will create.

Damn, I wish somewhere near me had this. I would be on it in a heartbeat.

It will be interesting to see if anyone else follows suit. One of the most interesting things is that Sugarbush is not a budget-priced resort by any means. Their adult unlimited seasons pass runs $1,295 if purchased before the pricing increase deadline. That is right up in the top echelon of pricing in the region. Seasons pass pricing in New England is largely a two-tiered market, with a few exceptions scattered about.
You have reasonably affordable smaller mountains that have limited infrastructure yet sub-$500 seasons passes. Then there are the major resorts that have tons of infrastructure, the best parks in the region, the most lifts, and the most terrain, and those resorts are charging a premium.
There will definitely be some lost revenue in the sense that some customers who were going to drop $1,295 for a unlimited seasons pass will now be dropping only $299. I'm sure it was not an easy decision to make either from a strictly financial point of view.

The Northeast has an extremely dedicated ski population along with some great terrain. The Northeast has also produced a great number of incredibly talented freeride skiers who could run circles around any of us posting in this thread.
Set aside your superiority complex with regards to your respective geographical location and recognize what each area brings to the table and how every corner of the snow-covered world offers the sport of skiing something special.

i honestly hope more mountains follow suit because im one of those people that could benefit from this and would definitely pony up the money for it.
however, if all else fails, i can still pass for 18 and get the young adult ticket

Interesting experiment. I'll be curious to see if it works for them, and if they continue it in future years.
You could also do a tiered program like this, whereby the later you get in your twenties, the more you pay (by $50 or $100 increments).

after buying my car, iphone, macbook pro, skullcandys, new saga outerwear, new skis, bindings, taking time off work, and food for a couple days, the seasons pass/lift ticket really breaks the budget....
I hope it works out in sugarbush's favor it's a smokin deal.

i pay $500 for a tiny 30 trail, 1200ft mountain with no challenge and shitty parks

It's about time. There pass sales will skyrocket and other mountains will follow. Wishful thinking but seriously how can this fail it's not like they're losing money. People who get this weren't gonna drop like 12 Hundo before so it seems like alot of extra revenue. The people who can afford to pay that and were still will. Way to be sugarbush.
There is definitely an opportunity cost in this situation. I'm sure that there are season pass holders who were 19-29 years old and buying the $1295 seasons pass. That revenue is lost as they are now able to buy a $299 pass.
I really like the idea though. It's trying to combat the large number of "skiers and snowboarders" (the industry definition is different then our perception of this term) who leave the sport due to the costs upon graduating college.
Additionally, they are the first resort that I am aware of that has recognized the fact that recent college graduates are in most cases (at least those graduates who paid their own way through college), in no situation to be able to afford high priced seasons passes.

The mountains in Colorado are FAR better than anything back east, that is a fact. No reasonable person would prefer Sugarbush to those places, all other things being equal. People live on the east coast, and love the skiing they have, I respect that. But no reasonable person would say that Sugarbush is better than the big Colorado mountains. Someone might prefer living in Vermont to Colorado, but it is not for the quality of the skiing.
And for the record, I did grow up back east.

Nothing like skiing through tight deciduous trees. I wish I could ski farther up north (i'm in NJ). I've skied out west and don't get me wrong it's great. but the EC is my place.

You asked it not to be an east versus west thread.
My point, was that it was not Subaru who cunted the thread up. He was merely making an accurate point, that it would be tough to pay that much for Sugar when you can get all of those great mountains in Colorado. It makes the deal seem a bit less sweet, even though it is a moot point based on geography.
His point is accurate, and very fair. It is perfectly reasonable for someone to feel that way. The response, from someone else, not you, was an illogical, emotional response. That is the problem I have.
I did not imply that you said anything about east being superior to west. My point was that this is NOT east coast/west coast bickering, but logical/illogical bickering, which is annoying. My post was not really directed at you, I only sought to point out that it was an absurd statement which started this, and that it was not simply east/west conflict. You did not make such a statement, someone else did.

For those wondering why we did this, it's because there is a tremendous drop-off of season pass holders in their twenties, not because we are better than another mountain range's ski areas. Every ski state has something awesome ... we like our thick air, generally safer snowpack and cliffs with no runouts.
